Why these brackets cost more than the TV you're hanging it from is beyond me! This model was the result of research for a reasonably-priced mount for a 32" flat screen. It's well made, did what it said it would do, and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Yes, I highly recommend this item.

Sony BRAVIA W-Series KDL-52W5100 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Review

I received the KDL-52W5100 about 2 weeks ago. It replaced a KDL-52V5100 that I got in March, which replaced an older Sony Hi-Def LCD rear projection 1080i model (KDF-60XS955). The KDL-52V5100 was great at first, but it had a very annoying dimming problem that Sony eventually fixed with a firmware update. The problem was that the firmware update then broke the audio for me. The audio would cut out a few times a night on all HDMI inputs. Tried new cables, new Dish receiver, everything. They finally, after weeks of fighting with them, sent me another KDL-52V5100 which then had the same problem. Sony was very good about taking care of me with these issues, once I got a hold of the right person. Before that, they give you the run around and are willing to let your brand new TV sit in a repair shop for weeks while you wait for it. I will be keeping the contact names/numbers/email addresses for future reference. It's amazing how fast your problems get addressed when you email the Vice President of customer service for North America directly at his actual personal email address! :-) They finally, just 2 weeks ago replaced it with this TV. The KDL-52V5100 had a great picture (when I wasn't having problems with it) but this TV performs very noticeably better! I have used it with an XBOX360, a PS3 and with Dish Network Hi-Def receiver/DVR. The standard def is better than most of the other LCD's I looked at but as with all you can see the flaws of the SD picture. This one looks better than most for SD though. It also doesn't have the HDMI color space issue that the KDL-52V5100 had with my XBOX360. I have it set to Y'CbCr and it looks AMAZING! The PS3 also looks INCREDIBLE! This TV had all the features I wanted and has delivered higher performance and picture than expected. This TV does have noticeably better picture quality than the V series. The contrast is better (possible due to the Bravia 3 engine as opposed to the Bravia 2 engine in the V series) and there are more advanced features for scene selection and other video options. Plus the Xross media bar menu system is WAY better than the plain generic menu in the V series. It looks to be more customizable. The internet connection, DLNA and widgets are just a bonus for me. When I received it, it already needed a firmware upgrade which very conveniently upgraded right over the internet rather than having to use a flash drive. Because of that I can't comment on issues with the old firmware. The stand is average size but I wish it swiveled. The TV is not too heavy. The appearance is very sleek, it appears less clunky than the heavier V series and I like the option to have the Sony logo glow. It's pretty cool. The one thing I was worried about was the fact that it has an 8-bit LCD panel, rather than a 10-bit panel. I was really worried it would have banding or "paint by number" effects. I picked up a copy of Digital Video Essentials (DVE) HD Basics on Blu-Ray to calibrate the TV and to my surprise it included a test for checking for slow processing and for color banding "paint by number" effects. This TV was able to reproduce a perfect gradation in both color and gray scale with ABSOLUTELY no banding or "paint by number" effects whatsoever! I was really impressed. According to DVE an 8-bit panel should be able to do this as long as the processing board is fast enough and good enough quality. These problems are more due to the processing than an 8-bit panel according to DVE. The 10-bit is not necessary if you have adequate processing. After more research I have found that, that is why most higher end manufacturers, like Sony have started using 8-bit panels again in most but their very high end models. After calibrating this TV with DVE the picture is far better than I had ever hoped for, with great black levels and extremely vibrant, true to life color. The off angle viewing is exceptional. The picture morphs a little from extreme side view due to the flat screen, but the contrast and brightness even from almost sideways is awesome! On the last note, the Dish Network receiver/DVR looks great as well. Any problems with the picture was due to the signal from the satellite and not the TV itself. All the HD channels have some compression and it shows, but wouldn't matter how good the TV is for that. DVD, Blu-Ray, XBOX350 and PS3 have absolutely the best picture I have seen on any other LCD. They only thing that could be as good or better is Plasma, but I really wanted a Sony and they only make LCD's now. I am very pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend this TV for anyone. The matte finish is great as I have a lot of ambient lights and side windows in my living room. The only other TV I was considering was the Samsung and the highly reflective, glossy screen just would not work for me. Other than that, the Samsung has a great picture too. I mean Sony uses Samsung panels in most of their TV's, so...

If you are seriously consider purchasing this tv, please read this review completely. This is a bit critical in nature, but I hope to provide a balanced review based on my experience with this unit. Depending on what you are looking for, this set may or may not work out well for you.
Just for background context, I mainly watch HD content hooked up via hdmi on my PS3. This includes bluray movies, hd content and some gaming. Regular tv and sd viewing were not as much of a concern to me. I own a 3 year old 26 inch sony lcd, and have also more recently owned a vizio 42 inch xvt, and samsung's latest 40 inch b550, which is the non 120 or 240hz model of their current lineup, and most recently the 50 inch Panasonic G10, which I purchased after returning this B750 that I am reviewing. I may refer to some of these in the review.
As you will read there are a few major issues I found that made me return. If you feel these wont be a problem for you, this model should work great for you. After all if you are going to pay a little under $1,700 for a tv, one should be completely satisfied with it.
Design
This tv looks beautiful, understated, elegant and simple. It has a very slight touch of gray at the bottom that you can barely notice, and it should complement pretty much any decor in your home. The unit is quite thin at around 3 inches, and I was able to lift and set up the tv myself. Cheaply made screws, almost as bad as ikea used to setup the stand were a bit of a pain to put in and remove when I decided to return the unit. After a correct assembly, the tv still sort of wobbles around and generally doesn't feel like it is solid on the stand, though it shouldn't pose any problems. I noticed the same thing on the Samsung B550 by the way. The swivel design works smoothly and easily, and though I didn't use it at all, I could see how it would come in handy.
Picture Quality and Viewing Experience
The picture quality in general on this unit is gorgeous. Nicely saturated colors and comfortably deep blacks for an lcd. I tested several blurays and they all looked excellent. You will definitely need to dial back the setting to get a more realistic picture, as much of the regular setting have over-cranked saturation, brightness and contrast to impress in stores like best buy. Overall, I can say even the most discerning movie goers and enthusiasts will find it hard to really put down the picture quality itself, though there are definitely better sets out there for the money. The picture was definitely an improvement over the cheaper Samsung B550, but wasn't drastically better. i think much of the sense of better picture over the b550 was the glossy screen and better motion processing. It supposedly has a better/newer panel (10-bit vs 8-bit) over the b550 and other cheaper model lcd's. I guess the difference between very good and very very good is a subtle one.
You are given a bevy of picture tweaking options to adjust the picture to your particular room and your eyes. If you are like me, you will fiddle at least a little bit with these, and will switch between settings depending on what you are watching.
The 240hz processing to my eye, and many other reviewers will not provide any visible difference from 120hz. But the manner in which it is implemented is really nice. You can adjust judder and blur separately to get the picture to the way you like it. I felt this worked well, and really helped in the overalls smoothness and motion intense scenes. I had blur at 10 and judder between 3 and 6 depending on what I was watching.
However, this was all marred by a few issues, the worst of which was auto dimming. I had read about this on the led side lit samsungs 6 & 7000 series (which you can also find at your local best buy and amazon as well), but did not know this was included with the b750. Gizmodo did a feature on this for the b7000 with the phrase "avoid!" in the title. Basically, anytime the scene gets dark, the tv will sense that and automatically drop or dim the backlight dramatically to get deeper blacks. The problem is that is happens usually a split second after the scene has already started and it is extremely distracting. It also darkens many bright spots in the picture somewhat, like city lights over a dark sky, or stars in a dark sky. This is very noticeable for example on the Dark Knight bluray. The more I watched, the more annoying it got. The fact that the lcd already does a good job of getting very black without the dimming is what makes it really unnecessary. It also does this while flipping channels on tv, and pretty much anything you watch. There is no way for the consumer to switch this off, as far as I know. I tried everything in the menu, from dynamic contrast to eco mode etc. There might be a more techie way, but I am pretty well versed in tech, and was not able to turn off this distracting feature. It is possible the autodimming wont bother you, but if it sounds like it might, please take note. This was a bit hard to swallow for me, because almost none of the reviews mentioned this on the b750, including cnet. This also may be solved by a future firmware update from samsung, but don't hold your breath for it. (UPDATE: Apparently this can be fixed from the service menu. However the average consumer should understand that this could potentially void your warranty and mess up your tv. If you are confident though, search some forums online and try to fix this yourself.)
The next issue was what appeared to be slight "clouding" or patches of grey-whitish color on the panel. I didn't notice at first, but once a few black screens or dark scenes came on, it was both noticeable and distracting. This could be just my specific unit, or a defect. I had read that the b750 was very good in this respect and had a uniform screen, but the whitish patches became very noticeable, and in dark scenes, it looks like there were subtle hints of cloudy patches on top of the screen. I have read that this is a common issue with many lcd's, so it depends on what you end up with. But you do run the risk of this problem with the b750 or maybe any lcd. Still, my old sony, and the samsung b550 never had this problem, so it was a little disappointing.
Another issue was a thin flickering white/silver line that would flicker on top of the screen right under the bezel during many dark scenes. It was not too noticeable, but enough to become a slight nuisance. This was really obvious on dark knight, and also the Planet Earth bluray during the immersive underwater scenes.
I know the issues of glare on lcd's has been addressed ad nauseam, but I just thought I should chime in. The screen is pitch black and VERY reflective, to the point of acting like a mirror. I have a room that gets ambient, not direct, sunlight and it was quite distracting during the day. It is rather difficult to see, so you need to crank up the brightness, which helps a bit. The display definitely gets as bright as you need. In the evening, with very dim lighting, it is still possible to see yourself reflected in the tv when it goes black in between scenes. The Samsung B550 (a cheaper tv), has a sort of matte-glossy hybrid display that I thought worked much better when compared to this one. But, the glossy display is partly responsible for the richer color and deeper blacks you get on this unit. Always tradeoffs. If you are ok with glossy screens on tv's, you will be ok with this one too. P.S. best buy is not a good place to figure out if you are ok with glossy screens. They don't look the same at home.
Off angle viewing on this unit is just not very good. The moment you move even a little bit away from the sweet spot of the couch right in the center, the blacks start to wash out, and the whole picture starts to look different. Not necessarily terrible, but different. The cheaper B550 had much more consistent viewing angle experience for some reason, I'm not sure why. Basically, if you have 3 or 4 people over for a movie, some will probably be seeing a slightly different picture.
Gaming
Reading several reviews of the b750, some said gaming was too laggy (ie: when you press a button it doesn't register right away) on the it, some said it was fine, so I had to give it a shot. I felt it was far too much lag to play games well. In other words, you will die or miss more often. You wont know why, you just will. The lag is on a millisecond level, but much of the twitch response in gaming is that way. Your eyes wont really notice that it is lagging, but it is definitely there, and significantly I might add. The "Game" mode does a little to remedy this, but it is still not perfect and the picture a bit harsh in game mode, since you can't adjust any picture settings. If you are a very casual gamer and are playing games that don't really require good timing, then the lag wont really bother you. For me, I can't really recommend it for gaming. For reference, I was playing games like Resistance 2, Little big planet, Street Fighter 2 hd remix, guitar hero etc for testing. The lag is much better, almost nonexistent on the Panasonic G10, which is a plasma. For lcd, I believe the Samsung B750 gives average or maybe below average performance. Strangely, the Samsung B550 for comparison was a little better in my experience and so was my old sony lcd.
User Experience, Menus and extra features
Going with the theme of lag, I have to say Samsung's menus are extremely slow to respond and laggy. They look ok I suppose, with a blue graphical touch. All menu navigation has extra animations and movements that make them less responsive (reminds me of a Samsung cell phone I used to own). Compared to other tv's I have used, Samsung menus tend to cover more of the screen, which I feel is also a...Read more›

Panasonic TC-P46S2 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

Panasonic TC-P46S2 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this television from Amazon & have lived with it for a couple of months.
I did a lot of shopping; finally deciding on this television & I am very happy I did. This TV is fantastic: Beautiful colors - 1080p - 600Hz Refresh Rate - 2,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio. The last two numbers make LCD's come up very short. In case you don't know: The contrast ratio is a measure of the difference between white and black. The higher the contrast ratio, the blacker the blacks & the whiter the whites. The deeper blacks make the colors really pop. This is where Plasma completely dominates LCD.
Sound & Vision Magazine rated these Panasonic Viera Plasma televisions right under the Pioneer Kuros. This is high praise considering that they had rated the Pioneers the best TV, of any kind - anywhere, for the last two years. Considering that the Kuros are 4 times the price, this TV was the obvious pick.
For the last years; the knocks against plasmas were the issues of Burn-In and excess heat compared to LCD's. The issue of Burn-In has been addressed. It is not a problem anymore. In addition, I have not noticed the TV giving off any abnormal heat. As a matter of fact, I don't notice any heat from it at all. Since these issues have been fixed, Plasma's should be much higher on everyone's shopping list.
A couple of side notes: 1) since I got it I have moved from cable to Dish. This has made a big improvement, & 2) the ability of take an SD card directly from the camera, insert it into the TV, and play the images is a nice feature.
I ordered direct from Amazon with the free shipping. The television arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The delivery people were accommodating and professional. They set everything up & were nice enough to even move some furniture around.
If you are considering a television in this price range, I think this is the one to get.

Sharp AQUOS LC40D68UT 40-Inch 1080p LCD TV Review

Sharp AQUOS LC40D68UT 40-Inch 1080p LCD TV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When it came time for me to upgrade my TV's, I researched very thoroughly for a TV that has as little lag as possible as my fiance and I game HEAVILY. I had read on some forums that Sharp TV's in particular are among the best, and now that I purchased one I must agree. Any HD resolution, set on game mode, has zero lag. Button presses are instantaneously shown on-screen. So your Wii, Playstation 2 and 3, Xbox, XBox 360...all of those play fantastic. If you play old school games, the lag is next to zero. It's so minimal that I can still pull off combos and counters easily in Street Fighter Alpha 3 or Darkstalkers for the Playstation 1. And this TV has another big plus: it can play standard definition games (240p) through component cables. What this means is that you can play, for instance, playstation 1 games (at their 240p resolution), on a playstation 2 over component cables. The TV does all the process work, and on "Game Mode", it's fantastic to play. 480i plays fantastic as well.
Picture quality is great, and if you're not on "game mode', the lag is still very minimal. GET THIS TV if you game, you won't regret it!
The only downside to me is that it doesn't have s-video inputs for other old-gen games, as composite is blurry as it always is on HD.
If I have time I'll do a video review of this product to show how little (or zero) lag this TV actually has.

I replaced a ( $100) older wall mount for a 32" and needed something really sturdy for my 40" Sony Bravia. I ordered this because it said it can mount up to a 5o" and I don't want to buy another mount if I get a larger TV.
This unit is a dual arm and weighs 52# (solid on the wall) I can swivel it to view out the patio door while sitting on the deck so it gets a lot of adjusting. It came with several different size screws and spacers so it was out of the box and up on the wall in no time.
I look forward to this mount being around for many future TV's

Panasonic TC-P42S2 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

Panasonic TC-P42S2 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this for 3 days now, and wanted to wait until I fully tested it to write a review. After seeing how it performs with videogames, blu-ray movies and basic cable, I feel I know the television enough to offer my thoughts.
Picture quality: Incredible. Blacks are as deep as the bezel surrounding the TV. Colors are bold - everything you'd expect from a top of the line plasma. I own a 62" DLP, a 26" LCD, a 50" panasonic 720p plasma and this plasma, and the plasmas are the only sets that really "pop." This model is head and shoulders above even the 50" 3-year-old model I own.
Video game play: There's a game mode, which bumps up the brightness and sharpness. It's great for PS3 games. I've played Demon's Souls and Wolfenstein on it so far, and both look amazing. The system touts "1080 lines of moving picture resolution" to help with motion blur. Honestly, I never felt plasmas had an issue with motion blur to begin with, so I'm not sure how much of a difference this feature is making, but from what I understand in doing research it helps to have it.
Cable: HD looks good - even the reds aren't blown out. Basic cable is standard definition - a thing on it's way out anyway, lol.
Aesthetics/connections: The TV is very sharp looking, and the anti-glare feature on the S model (as opposed to the U model) actually makes a difference. I rolled my eyes when I read the feature, but I'm watching it in the daytime in a well-lit room and the glare is really minimal. The only minor dissapointment is no VGA connection, but I'll figure out a way around that. Was going to use VGA to hook up my 360 (since I'm using computer speakers for audio at the moment), but will go the component route now. By the way, a TON of controls and an HDMI input are on the side of the tv, making it very easy to get to.
Burn-in/image retention/ghosting: Haven't experienced any signs of even ghosting yet. Had my game on pause for a few minutes a couple times to test it.
Audio: Haven't tested the TV's speakers, just using an external set of logitech speakers with subwoofer at the moment.
Overall: For the price, I highly recommend the set. Like I said, I own 4 televisions of 3 different technologies and this one shows off the best picture. I have a collection of almost 800 blu-rays, and stay up to date on all the high-def news, etc... I do extensive research before purchasing a product, and actually went into this thinking I was going to give in and get an LED. I don't want to get into an LED vs. Plasma thing here, but the LED's are simply LCD with different lighting, and it brings all the inherent LCD problems with it. They make catch your eye in the store, but once you get home and get into your environment, it's a different story. That said, this plasma in game mode gets the picture as close to LED as I've seen but with much better blacks.
Update 5/2/10: Just thought I'd add to this that I've had a videogame on pause for more than an hour a few times, and while I wouldn't make a habit out of it, there hasn't even been a hint of ghosting and certainly no issue with burn-in. Even so, the TV seems to have an auto shut-off function after 5 minutes or so of complete inactivity. There will be a message prompting you that it will shut off in 3 minutes and it counts down from there.

LG 37LG30 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

LG 37LG30 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

I've had this TV for over a week now. This is my second HDTV LCD panel but my first in a larger size.
This unit packs a lot into a nice package for a really nice price. If you're looking for something just one notch below premium (i.e. a great set with great value) then buy this set. Don't be thrown by the price; this TV looks great and performs superbly.
720p at this screen size is perfect. 1080p below 42 inches is wasteful feature bloat that you don't need to pay for. High Def channels look phenomenal on this set. XBOX360 over component is terrific. My HD feed is fiber optic. I have not tested over-the-air reception of this unit yet.
Standard Def (regular TV) is very good compared to what I've seen on other sets in stores and at friends' houses. The internal signal up-converter is solid. DVD over component hookups looks very nice.
Display adjustment options are extensive. Some tweaking is needed out-of-the-box but this is very easy to do, and you can look online (AVSForum is great) for help in this arena.
ClearVoice sound (emphasizes dialogue over sound effects & music) is a great option and works well.
The internal speakers are surprisingly decent if that's all you have. They have very little bass, but the mid-range sound is fairly full. We have a small 2.1 speaker system that we will use, but I haven't yet felt compelled to hook it up while we get the sighting and wiring runs finalized.
The biggest problem I had with TV was getting the stand attached. Once I got that sorted out, the rest of setup was a breeze.
I paid more money than this set is listed for here, and I'm still thrilled with my purchase. That should say a lot.

I purchased this item and returned it the next day. The television and radio worked as expected. HOWEVER, the television did not pick up/program the cable stations. Out of about 150 cable programs, it only accepted 17 channels. I called Philips and they said it was designed for people who want to use an antenna. If you use an antenna and do not want to hook up to cable, I feel the set wourld work fine. Do not buy it if you expect to get all your cable chanels on the set.

Mitsubishi LT-40151 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Integrated Sound Projector, Black Review

Mitsubishi LT-40151 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Integrated Sound Projector, Black

I bought this TV to replace my 36" Sony Trinitron that just died. My Sony was in a custom built-in cabinet. I wanted to replace it with the biggest flat screen I could buy.
The only TV that fit my requirement was the Mitsubishi lt-40151. Its slim frame design met my needs perfectly. I looked at every brand of 40" flat screen and this had the smallest width footprint. I didn't want to go down to a 37". Of course that would have save me around $1000.
Here is my review of this TV (after 1 day):
Good Things:
1> The picture quality is outstanding.
2> The sound is very good for a flat screen.
3> The TV channel guide is very nice.
Bad Things:
1> The price. If I didn't have a size requirement, I would have never looked at this TV. With the $[...] price, I shouldn't have items 2,3 and 4 in this list.
2> The remote control. Not layed out very well and the menu keys are way too small.
3> The TV menu is not very user friendly. It took me longer than usual to get the TV set up with over the air broadcast and my devices. **I've set up a lot of TV's, most recently Samsung and Sony LCD's. Their TV menu were very easy to navigates and very user friendly. Mitsubishi has work to do here.
4> Changing channels was very slow. Way too slow for a $[...] 40" TV. I have a Radio Shack converter box that changes channel 3x as fast. A $[...] TV should be able to match Radio Shack. **My Samsung and Sony LCD work much faster too.
Over all:
I would buy this TV again, since it was the biggest TV I could fit in my space.
Hopes:
I hope $[...] price tag has bought me a quality built TV that will last longer than my 12 year old 36" Sony Trinitron (that should have lasted 20+ years).

First of all, this is my first HD LCD TV. I've done research for the last year trying to find the right TV for the right price.
After looking at Sony, Samsung, Sharp LCD's and the Samsung LED DLP, I stumbled upon the Philips 2PFL7422D on the web. After doing some research on this TV I found that it had all the pro's of the other big name brands but with out any of the con's, such as banding(Sharp) or clouding(Sony)(Note, this information was gathered from other reviews, I had not seen either of these phenomenon's my self).
I'm very happy with this TV. One thing I really like it the screen isn't shiny like Samsung's high end models I was also interested in. My TV is in a very bright location with lot of windows and a shiny screen was a really turn off even though the Samsung's LCD's review very well.
Some things to be aware of is the refresh is 60hMz (120hMz is the current high mark) and the HDMI is 1.0, not 1.3. Also the remote feels cheap but is easy to use.
I'm not a audio/video buff by any means, but I do understand the tech. I have a Xbox 360 and Wii hooked up, both through component cable, and they work great. I played Guitar hero 2 and didn't notice any delay between picture and sound. I also connected it to Comcast Digital and the HD looks great. Watched football this weekend and didn't notice any blur.
If your looking for high quality at a great value, check this TV out.

I ended up paying $551 for this 37 inch TV with all discounts and free shipping which I think cannot be beaten by any of the competitors...
I am dazzled by the performance of this big box!
Pros: Great picture, sleek styling, great price for a 37".
Cons: Menus are a bit cumbersome to use and takes a learning curve. Most of the features need to be accessed from the menu (They dont have an easy button on the remote to select the picture mode or sound mode). Remote is mediocre, with only most common buttons.

We bought an ORION 42 inch LCD model 42RTH set. It seemed to be an excellent choice since it had all the best inputs ie., HDMI, DVI, PIP< PBP, etc. The set was connected to satellite dish a PC and an outside camera. The set was only used twice for about an hour at a time afterwhich the entire screen turned funnky green. Attempts were made to adjust the set, but to no avail. No service, no warranty accepted by ORION.
BEWARE -- this product is JUNK. Look for another manufacturer !!

I purchased this Panasonic Viera 37" LCD with Ipod Docking station 2 weeks ago. Beautiful clear picture, awesome sound and I love the fact that you can connect your Ipod or Iphone to it and play your music directly from your television.I also love the SD card slot, makes looking at your pictures so much nicer than on the computer, which you can also hook up. I thought the price was fantastic on Amazon, I priced it at several other online stores and department stores, and you can't beat the Prime shipping, got it quick and the delivery guy brought it in took it out of the box and made sure everything was perfect. The only complaint I have is with the manual the directions for the Viera link are somewhat elusive, I'm still trying to figure that one out, especially if you are using a remote control from your digital cable company as opposed to the remote that came with the television. I have purchased Panasonic products in the past, and have always found them to be well made and long lasting. I would definitely recommend this TV for someone who is looking for a second set for the family room/den which is where ours is.
