Protron 26" LCD TV - Silver (PLTV26) Review

Protron 26 LCD TV - Silver (PLTV26)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First things first:
1) Picture: Great, easy to move between various aspect ratio, nice preset picture options and lots of good customizations
2) Sound: I am entirely satisfied with the sound. There is no hiss whatsoever, even when operating it at higher volumes. Once again, there are some great preset audio settings and also some nice ways to customize.
3) Inputs: There are inputs all over the place. Unless you have a dozen VCRs and DVD players, it will be utterly sufficient.
4) Misc: Remote works well, quite light, nice stand, all around very enjoyable.
5) Here's the caveat, I just bought this and I have only tried it out on a few DVDs and with a few shows. I don't know if it is going to hold up perfectly for years to come, but the initial experience is great. If it breaks, then I will certainly revise my review, but so far, so good.
I got this for a great price on clearance. The price was low enough that I decided to purchase a three year warranty to go with it. That way, even if it doesn't hold up well, I'll at least have a working replacement set for three years.

Insignia NS-L26Q-10A - 26" LCD TV - widescreen - 720p - HDTV Review

Insignia NS-L26Q-10A - 26 LCD TV - widescreen - 720p - HDTV

I bought this TV for the Mrs. for casual bedroom viewing. For a 720p HDTV, going head to head for picture quality, you had to spend $100 more to get something which smoked its picture quality. The colors are rich; motion tracking is OK.
Verizon FiOS looks great on it when fed via HDMI. DVD's & Blu-Ray look great on it too for casual, non-critical viewing.
The speakers are decent and have a balanced sound. The surround sound emulation option sounds like crap. It literally makes the whole TV enclosure sympathetically vibrate like a cheap clock radio.
The only other con is that the remote is not a universal remote so it cannot be programmed to control the Verizon set top box nor an Insignia BluRay player. Is it too much to ask that all remotes have the capability to be universal remotes?
Otherwise, given its limitations, it is a great budget HDTV.

LG 26LH20 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

LG 26LH20 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black

We bought this unit bec we saw it in the store and the picture was outstandingly beautiful. What we could not have known was that there would be an extremely annoying mismatch of picture and audio in the HD mode using our Comcast Motorola HD cable box. After realizing this problem, we Googled it and found multiple, similar complaints. Then we used the Contact Us feature in the LG website, and a tech offered to send us a firmware update. We declined bec we knew from other complaints found in Google that the LG "fix" -- a firmware update they offered -- did not help. Plus, it would take a few weeks to arrive. That would put us beyond the return deadline. So we returned the unit and paid $100 more for a 26" Sony Bravia 5000 which we love and does not seem to have this problem.

Toshiba 26AV502R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Toshiba 26AV502R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Note: I purchased this 26" LCD TV one week ago. As I am waiting for the cable company to upgrade my service, this set is simply receiving a standard cable signal without benefit of a converter box or High Def signal. Many LCD owners consider the signal source a major factor in image quality -- so I want to be clear on this point at the outset. Also, my DVD player is more than 5 years old and does not upconvert.
PROS:
Easy to install base pedestal. Four screws (provided) and a phillips head screwdriver are all that's needed. Instructions were clear and straight forward. Hooking up the coax cable took only a minute.
Superb remote control. Layout is intelligent and intuitive -- a pleasure to use. Glows in the dark (bright!) Sleep timer button is well placed on the upper corner and easy to access without even looking. Easily one the best designed remotes on the market and a pleasure to use.
Picture and sound set-up controls are very easy to understand. Owners manual instruction very clear and straightforward.
Sound is excellent. Very good quality and volume. Treble, Bass, and Balance controls are easy to use if you choose. For it's size and likely application -- a bedroom or a small den -- the sound is really quite good. This set has forward facing speakers -- not down firing as many LCD sets have.
Picture is fair to good. Live TV broadcasts such as news programs and talk shows appear brighter and with better, cleaner colors than movies -- especially films with dark scenes. DVD programs appear much better. (Please note again the standard coax cable signal source I am presently receiving)
2 HDMI inputs and multiple others. More than enough for most applications.
CONS:
Picture not as sharp as I would like, especially broadcast TV as opposed to DVD (standard DVD). Also, I am noticing scenes go from dark to light and back for no apparent reason. This could be due to a setting which may be improperly set .. but I've tried it both ways but see the same effect.
One other frustrating scenario for example: multiple camera shows. For example, a news program where you have an anchor in the studio and a reporter in the field. The anchor looks pretty good but the field reporter might look a bit green or orange. Other sets even this out, the Toshiba does not.
Conclusion:
For the money, this is probably the best value on a 26" LCD TV on the market today. Prices under $[...] are out there. If you are an "average" TV viewer, you may find this set to be just the ticket for your bedroom. But, if you have a critical eye, you may find the tuner or signal processing unit on this set a bit under par compared to Sony and Samsung -- perhaps more sophisticated technology, but which also carry price tags of $[...] and more higher.
Once I get a better cable signal, I may amend this review. Indeed, I will decide whether I am keeping the Toshiba or spending the extra money for the Samsung 26". So please "stay tuned".
UPDATE: Yesterday I installed a Panamax PM8-HT 8-Outlet Power Line Conditioner and Surge Protector. The image quality of this TV increased markedly! Panamax PM8-HT 8-Outlet Power Line Conditioner and Surge Protector

I WON this TV's little brother (19" version). It was a drawing from Budweiser.
I hooked it up with not much trouble, I'm not a fan of those down facing connectors.
I was "forced" to go through the channel scan even though I was using the RGB connectors. I just hooked it to cable long enough to finish the set-up and then disconnected it.
It took a little fiddling to get the picture all over the screen (instead of a little box in the middle). I got it up to 1081 16:9 so it looks great!
My old set was a 26" CRT (heavy!) this one fits in my backpack (almost). It's got a sturdy wide base so no need to worry about the cat tipping it over.

I purchased this LCD TV originally from a rental company new. When I saw the item listed here I grabbed another one. This TV is easy to use and has a great picture. You can even use it for a computer monitor and TV at the same time. There are two models of this TV---W2600 and W2600C. The difference between the two is that the "C" model does not have a slot to install an optional card reader (avaiable from DELL only). Has all the connections you could ask for. You can't go wrong for the price.

With an optimal viewing distance of four to 12 feet, the wide-screen, high definition-ready W2600 26" LCD TV is large enough for dens, large bedrooms or even a living room. The W2600's bright display delivers 450 nits of luminance and a 500:1 contrast ratio that produces an outstanding image, even in well-lit rooms. The W2600 TV also delivers a truly outstanding audio experience. Integrated stereo speakers with 15 watts per channel power the system, and SRS TruSurround XT provides advanced technology available for delivering virtual surround sound over a standard, two-speaker system. There's no need to invest in a multi-channel sound card or additional speakers to thoroughly enjoy 5.1 multi-channel soundtracks for movies and music. Dual analog tuners provide the capability to view two channels simultaneously, and the system supports full Picture-in-Picture capabilities including Picture-in-Picture (PIP), Picture-on-Picture (POP) and Picture-by-Picture (PBP). The W2600 TV makes a beautiful addition to any room. Its sleek profile is less than four-inches thin when wall mounted. The First type TV that I have bought with a DVD Combo on it, works well in my opinion and I would suggest it to someone that is looking for a nice bedroom or small type room TV. I can say that the speakers on the TV are just stock speakers so the sound is just good enough for the average person and is much like an average TV speaker system so If you want surround sound to it, just buy a coaxial cable and hook it up to a surround sound system that has a coaxial input to it. The DVD Player shows all movies very good and I can't really say if they are upscaled or anything, but all I know is they look pretty good, like a movie should look on any TV.
Note: - - - (About the Resolution) I have searched on the internet to find more about this TV and all the sites I have seen show this TV to have a Top resolution of 1080i resolution which is great, But for some reason my shows in 1080p resolution which is the highest you can go.
UPDATE - - I have been told that the TV is just picking up the 1080p signal, But that the TV is Downsourcing the signal to only 720p thus the info (1366 x 768p Hig Def resolution) Listed on the Product Description info part on the internet.
- - - Wow Amazon dropped the price of this TV, it was listed for $750 in early April 08 !!! Even Better & Free Shipping !!

I took a chance on this tv since it was on clearance and couldn't be happier. The picture quality from the built in dvd player is gorgeous and since its built in there are fewer cables to manage.
If your going to mount this to a wall, just be aware that the mounting holes are spaced rather far apart. So most of the mounts designed for tv's this size will be to small. I had to return the first wall mount I bought and purchase a larger one because of this.
(The Viore website says that the tv is vesa wall mountable. If that means anything to you.)
Other than that little hiccup, this thing has been working perfectly for 6 months now.

I got this TV, mostly because it was a name brand and cheaper than most. I really like all the ports and I was willing to go with a 720 rather than a 1080 out of pricing. for a simple high def TV, this is really nice, I play alot of games and watch even more movies, so my old CRT wasnt going to cut it anymore. A few things I found to grip about(isnt that why we all read these things anyways?, lol)
1. the speakers broadcast most of the sound BEHIND the TV, now my games sound OK, but movies lose a bit. I would recomend using a stereo or alternate device to broadcast your sound.
2. I would have liked more than one S-Video port, I use alot of devices, and don't want to go out and get a componant cable just to have the DVD player and games at the same time with out loss of signal.
and 3. It was kinda wierd to find the buttons are not on the front of the TV, so that can make changing channels ackward if you lose your remote, and your TV is against something, not something that effects everyone, but hey, just a simple problem.
all in all, this is a great TV for someone who wants reasonable HD at a low cost. If you are looking for a 720p, just buy this one, toshiba is a crappy brand, and sony costs too much. and everytime I buy panasonic, I am always satisfied.
hope my review helps

We replaced an 18 year old 27" CRT set with this one and it's a beauty. I am a TV news cameraman with thirty years in the business so I look at a lot of high end monitors at work.
When I went to the store I didn't expect to get a great set in this size and frankly 720P didn't excite me much either.
After looking at top tier sets from Sony, LG, Samsung, Toshiba and Mitsubishi I ended up on the Panasonic.
I was shocked at how good all the upper tier sets looked but the Panasonic seemed to have a little better detail down in the blacks and seemed to track highly detailed scenes with less digital noise than the others, but it was close accross the board.
The off air ATSC tuner is excellent and the set has all the inputs you could reasonably need. I do not intend to plug in an iPod so that wasn't a factor in my choice.
My DVD player is older and does not pass audio through the HDMI output so I connected it to the set via the component outs and I feel no need at all to upgrade to a BlueRay player. At this size this is a wonderful combination.
My general feeling is that if you watch a lot of HDTV that is live or tape such as sports then Panasonic flat screens just seem to pull a little more quality out of the signal. For movies it is more of a level playing field.
This is pretty subjective but it's how I see it.
It's amazing how far your money goes in this stuff anymore.

I bought this TV for use in my tent in Afghanistan. The picture and DVD operation are good, but the sound is so bad you can hardly hear it when the volume is up all the way. I email Coby customer support and explained the problem and told them I had already tried multiple DVDs to same end. I got an email from them the next day saying, "Movies are recorded at lower volumes." That was it! No suggestions, no settings, nothing! SO I called them and was told on the phone, "Well it must be broke, send it back."
Order if you like, but I consider this buy a waste of money.

Average Reviews:

I bought this LCD/DVD TV combo for my wife so she can watch her movies on DVD in the kitchen and she loves it. It's just the right size and weight to be moved around to suit her viewing needs. The speaker are very loud for this unit and I sometimes have to tell her to turn it down a bit. The picture quality is good but not as good as my Sony Bravia unit. The colors don't seems as rich to me but my wife said she doesn't notice any difference. So given that, I gave it 5 stars. I don't know about the longevity of Toshiba. I have mostly own Sony TVs. If there are any issues, I will keep you posted. BTW, there were NO dead pixels too which is great. Given the price, it's a good bargain.

Attractively designed and offering 720p high-definition viewing, the feature-packed, affordable 26-inch Toshiba 26CV100U LCD HDTV (26-inch diagonal screen size) is an all-in-one entertainment package that's great for any room in your house thanks to its integrated, side-loading standard DVD player.
Perfect for use as your main television, the CV100U Series features Toshiba's DynaLight dynamic backlight control for deeper black levels, and two HDMI digital inputs for simple high quality connection to cable/satellite boxes, DVD players and more. It's also a great choice for kids and family rooms with the CV100U's Gaming Mode, which offers reduced game control delay and improved reaction time. And the Photo Frame capability with Auto Slide Show is especially useful in bedrooms, dens, and kitchens.
Boasting a slimming tapered bezel and attractive front panel gradation, the new Horizon design creates a more modern, elegant appearance that also matches Toshiba's black glossy Horizon-designed laptops. Other features include MP3 playback via the integrated USB port, a PC input, and a removable stand.

Key Features
720p HD resolution (1366 x 768 pixels)
60Hz screen refresh rate
CineSpeed LCD panel with a fast response speed necessary for cleaner high-action home theater images. A wide viewing angle ensures that you'll have the best seat in the house.
Integrated slot-loading DVD player on the side (compatible with standard DVD discs as well as content burned onto DVD-R/RW, Audio CD, CD-R/RW, and VCD media--including both MP3 and WMA digital audio files)
DVD playback controls include digital picture zoom, fast scan, slow motion, and multi-camera angle selection.
DynaLight Backlight Control utilizes advanced image processing to monitor the brightness of each video frame, and adjust the backlight intensity accordingly. This precision creates seamless transitions with deep blacks for increased detail and depth analysis.
Photo Frame capability allows this HDTV to act as both a TV and a digital photo frame. You can showcase your favorite memories as a clear, crisp slide show on the high-resolution television screen--all controlled with just the TV remote.
Gaming Mode takes the gaming experience to a new level by reducing game control delay, thus giving the player improved reaction time and a more realistic playing experience. This is great when used with popular gaming consoles, or with PC games using the TVs PC Input.
Built-in ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuning allows for tuning of standard cable channels as well as off-air digital broadcasts, in addition to digital "cable-in-the-clear" broadcasts.
Native Mode restores the size of the picture by the 3-5 percent that is generally lost during the normal over-scanning that occurs on traditional sets.
Cinema Mode 24 fps (3:2 Pulldown): This HDTV performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.
Color Temperature Control enables you to adjust white balance to achieve the best television picture possible in any viewing environment, or simply adjust the picture to suit your personal tastes. The "Warm" setting delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room, while "Medium" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased.
Three TheaterWide modes are ideal for displaying HDTV signals as well as enhanced for widescreen television DVDs.

VIZIO M260VP 26-Inch 1080p LED LCD HDTV, Black Review

VIZIO M260VP 26-Inch 1080p LED LCD HDTV, Black

This is by far the best LED 26" you can buy. I first purchased the LG LED 26" but found that picture was not that great when connected to a computer plus price not that great. I purchased this which is 1080P in resolution and way cheaper than the other 720P LED version from other companies. This Vizio just blew me away compared to other 26" LED tvs I looked at. Picture and sound is amazing, PC hook up makes this a great computer monitor as well. Has USB to view media so you can view your pictures that are on a flash drive. The black gloss finish just adds to it. Controller for TV also better than average. Maybe a little big for my taste. I'm used to the small apple remote. I also want to mention that this was by far the easiest TV to put the stand on. No screw driver needed, just slide in and twist the provided screw. I still can't believe I got such a great TV for the price. I hooked up my PS3 to this also and for any gamers out there, I never experienced any ghosting. If your looking to buy a new 26" LED TV you have a winner with this Vizio!

I will start off by saying I am no electronics expert by far, and I just wanted a plain ole tv to watch .... not a computer monitor or to use for gaming system. I have been watching it for about a month and it has a good picture and I have used the dvd quite often and that works fine. It takes a while to turn on, 5 sec but I can live with that. It suits by needs & I am pleased with product and price $300. So if you just need a tv, nothing fancy, try it.

VIZIO M220VA 22-inch Full HD 1080p 720p LED LCD HDTV Review

VIZIO M220VA 22-inch Full HD 1080p 720p LED LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

I recently purchased the new VIZIO M220VA 22-inch LED TV, and so far it seems to be a solid performer. Of course, I feel that it is my obligation to point out that this model is NOT meant to be a high-end set. If you purchase this with such an expectation, you will be disappointed. However, if you are looking for a good, affordable LED LCD TV with great picture quality, you would have a difficult time finding a better bang for your buck than this.
Let me start by expressing how very annoyed I get when I read reviews that get so caught up in only pointing out superficial flaws and never even touch upon the most important aspects - picture and sound quality. Yes, this TV does have it's quirks: the remote is a little stiff and can be a little fickle sometimes. The stand is difficult to put on and literally took me a good 15 minutes to figure it out. However, despite these flaws, this television does deliver where it matters.
Picture quality is quite good, especially for a TV in its price range. Standard definition content looks sub-optimal, but this is due to the nature of how SD video is scaled by HDTVs in general, and nothing to do with this model specifically. High-definition content looks excellent, and I have had good experiences watching 720p/1080p movies from my laptop (through the VGA output). The picture is bright, crisp, and contrast is great. Blacks are rich and solid, without losing the subtle detail in the content. Keep in mind, though, that in order to get the most mileage, you will need to spend some time to calibrate the settings to give you an optimal picture quality. Games look great and there is no ghosting with the TV's fast 5ms response time.
The screen has a matte finish, which is great if your environment has lots of lighting, as the matte surface will suffer far less from glare than a glossy screen would. There is a never-ending debate over whether one type of screen surface is better than the other, but I'll leave that for another day.
Sound quality on the other hand is nothing to write home about. The speakers are a bit weak, but this is easily solved by using a set of external speakers. I am currently using an old set of computer speakers hooked up via the headphone jack on the TV, and they sound infinitely better than the TV speakers after turning off the "SRS TruSurround" option (some sort of faux-surround sound simulator).
The VIZIO has a decent number of inputs in the back, with 1x Composite, 1x Component, 2x HDMI, 1x VGA w/ Audio, 1x USB (for photos), and an optical input for a home theater sound system. It is worth noting that HDMI and component inputs are located directly on the back of the model (composite inputs are on the side), so if you are planning on wall-mounting it, it may be difficult to plug in the necessary connections if you don't leave enough room between the wall and the TV.
Also, it is worth noting that the previous reviewer stated that there is no way to remove unwanted channels individually. This is FALSE. Under the "Master Channels" menu, you have the options to "Mark All", and "Unmark All" channels. Hitting right on the controller allows you to move up and down on the list to select individual channels to add/remove.
All in all, this is a good TV. It is certainly not perfect, and if you have more money to spend I would encourage you to shoot for a higher-end model. But for what it's worth, the VIZIO M220VA is a tough beast to beat in its division.
