SONY KV-36FV310 36-Inch FD Trinitron(R) WEGA Television Review

This television really does have a superior picture to most of what's out there. (unless you step up to a good quality plasma screen). The only issue I've had is with one corner of the set that gets some weird colors once in awhile. From what I was told, this occurs because of the sensitivity of the set to the magnetic north and that if I turned the set, the problem would likely go away. Besides that, dvds look perfect, and playstation 2 games are great looking on this set.

Philips 32RF50S 32" Flat Screen TV Review

Philips 32RF50S 32 Flat Screen TV
Average Reviews:

I bought this TV 1.5 years ago. I thought it was great for the first few months, then I gradually noticed that the picture just didn't seem as clear anymore. Now when I watch my digital cable, I can't even read small text on the screen because it is so blurry. Same thing for DVDs...forget about reading subtitles! It's very annoying and frustrating.
I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with it, but I am certainly NOT happy with my TV now. I contemplated buying the Sony WEGA model, but opted not too because of the price increase. Now I see it probably would have been worth it. No more Phillips products for me.
One other con, the TV is HUGE and HEAVY It's so awkward to carry, I almost killed myself moving it last summer.

I couldn't be happier with a TV. I was going to spend the extra [money] for a flat screen HDTV; however, I couldn't really see too much of a difference between this TV and an HDTV. I recommend this TV to anyone.

This flat-screen powerhouse provides a bright, crystal-clear picture, great sound right out of the set itself, and the sense of well-being that comes with owning a big, solidly built, high-end television.
Video Features The Toshiba 36AF41 36" stereo television features Toshiba's FST Pure Fine Pitch Flat Picture Tube, which provides a clear, sharp picture and reduces the glare normally associated with curved-screen sets. Its three-line digital comb filter also enhances resolution by removing the blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl. Toshiba includes its heat-resistant Invar Shadow Mask technology, which prevents picture discoloration that often results from overheating. This allows the set to work at a higher voltage, producing brighter whites and improved color and contrast. This set also features Dynamic Quadruple Focus--for better-controlled picture tube rays that produce a crystal-clear picture equally across the entire screen--and Advanced Velocity Scan Modulation, which improves dark to light transitions, contrast, and overall picture sharpness.
Audio Features The 36AF41 is designed to provide maximal stereo sound reproduction from its internal speaker system with no additional speakers connected via Toshiba's side-mounted, front-firing Double Baffle speaker design. This unit also features surround sound capabilities and SBS (Sub Bass System), which provides a noticeable boost to the unit's low-frequency sound reproduction, lending greater general audio presence. This television also features MTS stereo with SAP (second language decoding) and includes a rear S-video input, two rear A/V inputs and a front panel A/V input, and A/V outputs.
Other Features A Glow universal remote, built-in V-Chip parental control, noise muting, and a favorite channel feature are standard features of this set.

I bought this TV a year ago and I love it and would get it today if I could. Picture is as good as plasma if not better. It is a 4:3 ratio, but you should just ask yourself what you watch more of TV or Movies. Right now the HD media that is coming out is getting to be everywhere. 5 NFL games on Sunday. 4-5 Xbox games in HD. HBO in HD, ESPN in HD, Discovery in HD, Prime time TV for the most part in HD. The picture has so much color and detail it is like night and day. Like putting black and white up against color and this TV is a great product to showcase that. Only knock on it is it ways 300 lbs so the stand (which has bevel edges) is recommended on carpet. With the stand anyone could move it anyplace in the room with ease. Great Buy!

Sanus Systems VisionMount LA112 Full Motion Mount for Large (40 to 63) Flat-Panel TVs

The reason I wanted to get the X-Arm is because it is motorized and I can adjust my TV with my remote. My TV is over my fireplace in a cathedral ceiling sunken great room with a lot of windows. Due to the layout of our furniture, sun glare, and how many people might be watching TV at any one time, I find myself adjusting the TV a lot or closing the blinds. I had a traditional articulating mount, but it is a pain to stand up and adjust it nearly twice a day and even a bit dangerous for my wife because at 5'6' she can barely reach it, let alone my kids. I also didn't like the fact that I had to grip my TV to adjust it. I also love that when you turn the TV off it goes nearly flush against the wall which looks much better when the TV is off.
I don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience of a remote controllable motorized mount. And the price is not that different from a normal articulating mount which is basically just a piece of aluminum or steel without all the electronic gadgetry and engineering of the X-Arm.

Toshiba 32AF44 32" TV with FST PURE Flat Screen Review

I have always been impressed by Toshiba's televisions, and this one is no exception. I purchased this TV last week, and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. The picture looks great (especially DVDs through the component video inputs), the sound is way above average for a TV in this range, and the features are equal to what you'd find on pricier brands. Basically, Toshiba gives you the quality you want but without the huge pricetag. One thing made me sad though: only one set of Component Video inputs. So if you want that high quality Xbox experience in addition to DVDs, you'll have to switch it through your receiver (which is what I do). Anyway, great TV and great price.

Note: Toshiba 32AF44 32" TV with FST PURE Flat Screen is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing the newer Toshiba 32AF45 32" Flat Screen CRT TV instead.
Feature-rich and amazingly affordable, Toshiba's 32-inch 32AF44 offers big-screen quality for a standard-screen price. The versatile CRT television is equipped to deliver vivid, high-contrast pictures FST PURE flat picture tube, which looks great and minimizes geometric distortions in the process. Generous connection options and parental controls let you and your kids use the set for a variety of applications. The 32AF44's 3-line digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Meanwhile, velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.Toshiba provides 2 user-selectable 16:9 modes for displaying widescreen images. Letterbox mode scans the entire screen, creating gray bars above and below the picture area, significantly reducing the chances of uneven CRT wear or "burn-in." The set's vertical compression mode uses all available scan lines to represent the widescreen, letterboxed image with as much clarity and detail as possible. The 5-watts-per-channel set receives stereo audio programming and SAP (second audio program), often used to broadcast an alternate-language track. The 32AF44 derives a heightened sense of stereo separation from its double-baffle speaker system, and BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.A ColorStream component-video input provides the ultimate picture quality from interlaced component-video signals; standard composite-video inputs accommodate all DVD players and most other video sources. You get 2 sets of rear AV inputs (one of which has S-video) as well as one set of front AV inputs for easy connection with a camcorder or gaming console. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. The 32AF44 also features V-Chip parental controls, GameTimer, a sleep timer, and a glow-in-the-dark, 4-device universal remote control with DVD operation. What's in the Box Television, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty information.

After being completely dissatisfied with the wobbly tabletop stand for my 55" Hitachi 55HDS69 plasma, I began looking for a wall mount. Having bought furniture made by Sanus Systems in the past and being 100% satisfied with it, I opted for this mount (in silver). Amazon had the best price by far. This mount is beautiful and extremely heavy duty. Mounting is straight forward and the adjustments are limitless. Moving the plasma (130lbs) is effortless with this mount. The silver model has a glossy finish to it that is impressive for a tv mount. I can push the plasma completely against the wall if desired - great for parties, etc. Although several screw sizes are included, I found the screws that Hitachi already included made the best fit. You WILL need someone to help you pick up the tv/mount assembly for final installation. Basically you bolt the plate to the wall, install the mount to the tv and hang the mount/tv on the bracket. This mount is very heavy (60+lbs) and super sturdy. My wife was even impressed. I will not hesitate to purchase another one if there is a need. I would definitely go with this larger Sanus mount if you have a TV larger than 50". There are lcoking brackets that can be tightened to hold the TV position static - or they can be left loose so the TV can be moved when needed. What more can I say, it's a TV mount that is beautifully constructed. There is an optional center channel speaker bracket you can buy for it also.

The Sony was great while it worked, but as the set stopped as soon as the warranty ran out. Sony used to make great, long-lasting products, but it seems like they've lost it lately. The set itself is very heavy, and so if it does stop working you've got a huge problem in getting it repaired.

Sony's KV-36HS510 36-inch FD (flat display) Trinitron WEGA television is a feature-packed CRT that's fully HDTV-ready. Its outstanding features include playback of JPEG image files from Memory Stick media, analog and digital high-definition inputs, a suite of picture-enhancing technologies, and twin-tuner, split-screen picture-and-picture.The set's standard 4:3 aspect ratio, Hi-Scan 1080i display, and picture-improvement circuitry let you view a mix of source signals at high resolutions, up to 1080i. DRC--Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction circuitry--upconverts standard interlaced (480i) video sources to 960i or 480p, while inputs as high-quality as 720p (720 lines, progressively scanned) are upsampled to full 1080i.Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p and 720p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The set's auto 16:9 enhanced mode detects anamorphically encoded widescreen program sources and offers full picture resolution on the video program, wasting none of its usable lines of resolution on the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.MID X (Multi-Image Driver X) circuitry lets you watch NTSC television broadcasts and high-definition programming simultaneously, side-by-side, using Flexible Twin-View two-tuner picture-and-picture. A special zoom mode lets you customize the size of each viewing window.ClearEdge VM wideband velocity modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The set's 3D digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).The KV-36HS510 also employs CineMotion Reverse 3-2 PullDown technology (often called 3:2 pulldown), a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Two high-definition component-video inputs grant optimum connection with a DTV decoder and progressive-scan DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. The set even has a DVI-HDTV interface to provide a digital connection between your DTV receiver and the KV-36HS510. You can choose between a set of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience. A rear AV output offers both fixed and variable-level analog audio outputs for hookup with, for instance, both a VCR and a surround receiver. If you don't have Dolby Pro Logic processing or a surround speaker system, the TV's SRS TruSurround will simulate surround sound through any two speakers. The set gives you stereo audio (with 7.5 watts per channel) as well a powered, 15-watt subwoofer to round out the low end. You can label the set's video inputs and channels for easy selection.Other video technologies include auto white balance, Dynamic Focus circuitry, Dynamic Picture Processor circuitry, Trinitone color temperature control, and vertical aperture compensation. An optional accessory for the set is the Sony audio/video cabinet SU-36HS1 (pictured). What's in the Box TV, remote control (RM-Y188), 2 AA batteries, user's manual, and warranty information.

Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV Review

Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

Price was a significant contributor to my decision to buy this TV. Conversations with tv-guys made me think that I needed to pony up for a 1080, but I just could not justify the premium over the 720p. Now that I have it, I am glad I saved my money. The picture quality is great, both in high def and for normal (low def?) viewing. Whenever I have guests and the TV is on, they are blown away by the quality and ask my questions about it.
I also like the anti-glare screen. At first I was a little concerned that the anti-glare picture would look "dull" compared to your average plasma, but that is no longer a concern - it looks great.
Another big plus for me was the appearance of the TV. Like other Panasonic models, this TV is sleek. Vizio and other manufacturers seem to incorporate larger speakers that look clunky in comparison. The size of the tv relative to the picture size is great - looks nice on the wall, and doesn't take up any more room than it needs to.
In fact, the reason why I am writing this review is because I am going to buy another one for a different room in the house. Panasonic has definitely won my repeat business with this one - I think that says it all.

From reading AVS forum I was ready to pull the trigger on a Panasonic G10. Then went to Best Buy to see them in person and this thing was just so much nicer in every way. I'm sorry Panny fanboys but the picture on the current models just looks dingy. The older ones were much nicer. Maybe they made too many compromises for the "eco" thing. And WAY reflective. Anyway, the Samsung came today, no more calibration that setting it to "movie" mode (will wait til after break-in for that). Watching a show about quasars & pulsars on DirecTV HD Channel (720p) and we are saying "whoo" and "wow" just like watching fireworks. The colors are vivid, but not harsh (like LCD's can be). No banding, jaggies. Incredibly detailed, but smooooth. It's just amazing. Flesh tones so natural it's like you're looking at a real person. This replaced a calibrated Samsung 56" DLP, which I preferred to anything I'd ever seen before (had it's caveats but LCD RPTVs were positively hazy at that time so I went with DLP since the rainbow thing was rare and didn't bother me - kind of pretty actually.) But this just blows it away. It's like the fog has lifted. Hot? Yes, it's putting off some heat; but I live in a cold climate (SF) so no big deal. Buzzing? If you put your ear right next to it (the hard drive in my DVR is way louder) but then I'm essentially at sea level, supposedly higher altitudes worsen that. Reflections? Yes, but nowhere as bad as CRT or (ahem) the current generation of MacBooks. It's glossy but subdued. For the first time I have an in-home viewing experience superior to a movie theatre. Just can't emphasize how natural the picture is. I hope Samsung & Panasonic will continue this technology. I love LCD TV for the kitchen, it's fine for watching the news, and great on the computer for static images, but this is a true videophile experience. Like MP3's (which sound great) vs full uncompressed quality digital sound. I can see how (especially sports oriented viewers) might prefer LCD - it's bright, sharp, vivid (especially if you're looking straight on - not so great off center). But if you want to see subtlety in light, shadow, cinematography - this new tech plasma is the way to go. Maybe the key is you need a technology where the pixels are producing their own light. The last time a picture was so smooth, natural, detailed to my eye were the last generation of Sony CRT Trinitron Wega sets. Perhaps OLED will be the next step up but I'm very happy with this. And Amazon's price, white-glove delivery, return policy can't be beat. The guys from Pilot unboxed it and made sure it was working before they left. Hauled it up 2 flights of stairs. I can't believe this marvel of technology was cheaper than a decent laptop.

This wall mount is excellent. Don't be confused by the description however. The "horizontal" adjustment is linear, in other words it moves lateraly from side to side rather than rotates. But, this is a good feature if you have to locate studs to get a proper mount. You can adjust the mount to hit the studs by the many mounting holes and then move the screen to adjust to the center. Also, the package of bolts for connecting the flat screen should be tested in the flat screen mounting holes to make sure that you have the right bolts.

Sony KV-32XBR450 32" XBR Wega Flat-Screen HDTV Monitor with PIP Review

Sony KV-32XBR450 32 XBR Wega Flat-Screen HDTV Monitor with PIP
Average Reviews:

This set is surprisingly good in the following ways:
After owning this set for four months, I am astonished at how BAD other televisions look. When my friend bought a 32 inch WEGA (non XBR) and had us over to take a look, I was appalled by the overdriven picture, extensive red push and large gap between scan lines. It was like watching television through a set of venetian blinds. The same with another friend's Toshiba flat tube set.
Further, if you're a gadget-type person. you'll appreciate the fantastically in-depth service menu. Every conceivable internal setting of the television can be accessed through the remote. We have dropped the red push altogether and the picture is considerably more pleasing than when the set was new.
Finally, the resolution of the picture tube is so much better than standard televisions that flaws, edits, and manipulations in NTSC sources can easily be detected with the naked eye. This could be a turn-off for some casual owners; other television sets are too blurry and inaccurate to reveal the flaws in a broadcast. Not the XBR! With this set, the difference between high quality and inferior broadcasts is as plain as day.
To sum up, this television is superior in every way. In fact, its superiority makes some common NTSC programming look pretty bad. Some owners won't like it, preferring to hide the flaws in the signal by watching through an inferior set.

The KV-32XBR450's flat,FD Trinitron picture tube cuts down on glare and minimizes imagedistortion, and its wealth of video technologies ensures that you'llenjoy sharp, vivid pictures, whatever your source components. The TV produces stereo audio with 15 biamplified watts per channelthrough built-in two-way speakers that border the screen. One of theKV-32XBR450's coolest features is its 16:9 enhanced mode,which--together with a feature called Hi-Scan 1080i--delivers maximumpicture quality by concentrating all viewable scan lines within aletterboxed image, wasting none of its horizontal resolution onrendering the black bars that border a widescreen image.Velocity modulation (selectable: off, high, low) improves the definitionat picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT(cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demandingwork--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of animage--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, likebroad dark areas. The set's three-line digital comb filter furtherenhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors andreducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp colorseparation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character'sstriped T-shirt).Top-of-the-line high-definition-capable component-video inputs minimizedigital and line-scan artifacts from compatible video sources (480i,480p, 1080i), while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodateall DVD players. You can choose between multiple sets of rear A/V inputsand a set of front A/V inputs for extra convenience when hooking up acamcorder or gaming console. A rear AV output offers both fixed andvariable-level analog audio outputs for hookup with, for instance, botha VCR and a surround receiver. You can label the set's video inputs andchannels for easy selection. The KV-32XBR450 offers Sony's CineMotion reverse 3:2 pulldowntechnology, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programsin their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces acommon distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fpsvideo; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing theredundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.Freeze Memo lets you freeze what's on screen and view it in a PIP windowwhile programming continues on the main screen. This is ideal for notingWeb site addresses, phone numbers, and contact information on the screen.Channel Fix automatically sets TV to a specific channel (such as 3) forcable box control, letting you switch channels on the cable box via theTV's universal remote control without altering your TV setting. TheControl S feature (input/output) lets you use the set with other Sonycomponents, controlling all with a single remote control, and only everpointing the remote at the TV--not each piece of gear.Other video technologies include Magnetic Quadra Pole (reduces beam spotdistortion and improves corner-to-corner focus, as well as picturesharpness), auto white balance, Dynamic Picture Processor and DynamicFocus circuitry, color temperature control, and vertical aperturecompensation. S-video detection automatically senses and switches theset's input to match an S-video source signal. What's in the Box TV, remote control (RM-Y184), remote batteries, a user's manual, andwarranty information.

Sony KD-27FS170 27-Inch FD Trinitron WEGA Digital TV Review

Sony KD-27FS170 27-Inch FD Trinitron WEGA Digital TV

This is a great TV by means of picture quality. Component input is superb. S-Video is really good also. I only have a few complaints though. There is no option to adjust the treble or bass for the audio. Also there is no audio out so you cant hook up a stereo or other speakers. Also when the screen is almost all white such as watching a hockey game you can see two pink shades of colored lines about 3-4 inches thick running vertical on the left and right side of the screen, which is probably the speaker's(built in the tv) magnetic field causing that. Other than the few complaints the tv is really nice. Thats why I give it 4 of 5!

You don't have to take out a second mortgage to enjoy crisply colorful, high definition-quality video and audio with the 27-inch Sony Trinitron KD27FS170 flat CRT television. The visually flat FD Trintron tube minimizes annoying glare from light sources, enhancing contrast, and corner-to-corner detail is rendered more accurately because images aren't distorted by a curved screen. It features both built-in analog and digital tuners, which enables you to receive digital ATSC programming via terrestrial signals (over-the-air) for watching highly detailed HD broadcasts.
You'll get great picture reproduction from compatible cable/satellite set-top boxes and DVD players using the three-jack component video (Y/Pb/Pr) inputs, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections.
The KD27FS170 has a 4:3 aspect ratio and produces standard definition, 480i (interlaced) resolution, but the picture quality will be greatly enhanced using the component video connection. Also, this set provides a wide screen mode for watching digital 16:9 (widescreen) broadcasts in their original widescreen format, or you can choose the zoom function to fill the 4:3 aspect ratio screen.
The digital 3-line comb filter compares each horizontal scanning line with the lines above and below, separating black-and-white detail from color information to virtually eliminate edge crawls and rainbow effects while enhancing horizontal resolution and minimizing video noise. It also offers the following convenience features:
Parental Control (V-Chip) helps parents monitor what their children watch on TV by establishing rating limits.
Favorite Channel function enables you to set up and select from up to five of your favorite channels.
Program Palette presets offer combinations of picture settings engineered to make the most of specific entertainment types (choose from Vivid, Standard, Movie and Sports).
Front panel controls allows access to the on-screen menus without the use of a remote control.
Front composite A/V inputs let you quickly connect video games, camcorders, or stereo/mono equipment.
Meets Energy Star guidelines for energy efficiency.
This set has built-in stereo speakers that produce 5 watts of power per channel (for 10 watts of total power) as well as Dolby Digital for 5.1-channel surround sound. It offers the following connection options:
Composite (RCA audio/video): 2 inputs (1 front)
S-Video: 1 input (audio connection uses composite left/right audio jacks)
Component (Y/Pb/Pr): 1 input (with left/right audio jacks)
RF: 1 analog VHF/UHF and 1 digital ATSC

Samsung HLP5663W 56-Inch Widescreen HD-Ready DLP Television Review

Samsung HLP5663W 56-Inch Widescreen HD-Ready DLP Television
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After buying an Olevia 32" LCD TV, I purchased this Samsung HLP5663W for the study for cinema-style home theatre viewing. This unit does the job quite well. Both of the aforementioned are great products. Color, brightness, contrast are very good, although an LCD or plasma screen would deliver better brightness. Out of the box the Samsung performed admirably; I haven't even needed to fiddle with any of the color/tone settings. I'll need one of the DVD color-testing kits to do that, but so far my eyes tell me everything is fine. I got the extended warranty for a marginal cost just in case the color-wheel optics or lamp fails. This unit provides HDMI/DVI and 2 component ports for just about any HDTV/DVD connections. Maximum resolution is 1080i, not 1080p, which Samsung will deliver in new models coming out in June, but at $500-$1000 more. Can't wait to get the Cablevision digital box to receive HDTV through the DVI port. ExtremeTech rated this TV an 8! I matched this TV with an LG DVT418 600 watt tower DVD/home theatre system providing great surround sound. I also bought the matching TR63 stand from Amazon, which has the lowest price with $10 shipping, amazing.

Immerse yourself in big-screen adventure with Samsung's 56-inch HL-P5663W. The television offers luxurious widescreen viewing, elegantly framed in an ultra-light, thin-bezel cabinet. Weighing less than 92 pounds and standing less than 15.6 inches deep, the high-definition-ready HL-P5663W offers more screen and less bulk than most projection sets. But it offers more than just quantity of screen: it's also engineered for quality. The secret to this DLP (Digital Light Processing) projection set's quality is its Emmy-winning technology from Texas Instruments. Samsung has combined its proprietary Cinema Smooth Gen 3 HD light engine and advanced optic enhancements with a single, postage-stamp-sized Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) capable of generating high-definition video images with film-like resolution, deep blacks, and robust colors. Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine enhances brightness while ensuring an incredible 1,500:1 contrast ratio.Texas Instruments' DMD panel is immune to the factors that can cause other displays to deteriorate with use, imparting a longer life expectancy than that of cathode ray tube (CRT) sets, plasma display panels, and liquid crystal display systems (LCD, LCoS, HTPS).A host of advanced digital interfaces and video inputs make non-issues of connectivity challenges and future proofing. Hang it, mount it, rest it on a stand, or move it just about anywhere, anytime. The screen's surface is nearly 100 percent reflective, and its lightning-quick switching speeds make it twice as fast as earlier designs and nearly 1,000 times faster than competing micro-display technologies. The HL-P5663W's automatic digital-format conversion system converts any input (whether DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer sources at 1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) to a progressive, 16:9 widescreen image with a 1,280 x 720 pixel count. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter dramatically reduces image-edge artifacts while improving transition detail, and the set's HD ultra-fine-pitch (.155 mm) screen further clarifies images, especially when you're viewing high-resolution sources like DVD and HDTV.Samsung's Cinema Smooth Film Mode 3:2 Pull Down correction circuitry addresses digital distortion in 480i (interlaced) video signals generated from 24 frames-per-second film. Finally, Samsung DNIe video enhancer (Digital Natural Image engine) works with all analog NTSC and wideband video signals for improvements in contrast, white level, and picture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improve lower-quality sources. The set offers digital-video inputs in 2 formats. A DVI-HDTV interface with HDCP copy protection permits all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with an analog interface, and an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) jack channels both digital audio and video to simplify connections with newer DTV set-top boxes and DVD players by reducing hookups to just a single cable and plug.Other inputs include dual HDTV component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i) for high-definition satellite receivers, HDTV tuners, and HD cable boxes with component video outputs (Y, Pb, Pr); 3 each composite- and S-video inputs; and 2 RF coaxial inputs for antennas or older VCRs or cable boxes. An audio/video output permits hookup with an external device such as a surround-sound receiver.A 15-watts-per-channel (x2) audio system with a pair of 2-way speakers comes with built-in SRS TruSurround XT, which simulates compelling surround sound through any stereo playback system, including headphones and the TV's speakers.Last but far from least, onboard 2-tuner PIP with side-by-side split-screen viewing grants convenient simultaneous viewing of 2 TV programs, while a supplied universal remote control permits control of the TV, a DVD player, a VCR, and a tuner/surround receiver. What's in the Box TV, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Sony KV-30HS420 30-Inch FD Trinitron WEGA HD-Ready Widescreen CRT TV Review

Sony KV-30HS420 30-Inch FD Trinitron WEGA HD-Ready Widescreen CRT TV
Average Reviews:

Contrary to popular opinion, you don't have to buy an expensive plasma or LCD (liquid crystal display) TV to get a great high-definition picure. In fact, many experts (including Consumer Reports) assert that high-definition TVs using traditional cathode-ray tube technology -- as this high-definition Sony does -- currently offer a sharper picture than plasma and LCD TVs, plus they are much less expensive and more reliable. This widescreen HD Sony TV has a very good picture with standard broadcasts and an outstanding picture with HD broadcasts and DVDs. If you'd like to get a widescreen high-definition TV now but your budget is limited to a thousand dollars or so, please consider this 30" Sony.

Bask in the widescreen glory of Sony's panoramic, high-definition-ready KV-30HS420 FD (flat display) Trinitron WEGA television. The 30-inch set offers analog and digital high-definition inputs, great audio features, and a suite of picture-enhancing technologies. Whether you're watching VHS tapes, DVDs, or high-definition (480p, 720p, 1080i) broadcasts, your programs will look breathtakingly good. The set's 16:9 aspect ratio, Hi-Scan 1080i display, and picture-improvement circuitry let you view a mix of sources at high resolutions, up to 1080i. DRC--Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction circuitry--upconverts standard interlaced (480i) video sources to 960i or progressive-scan 480p, while inputs as high-quality as 720p (720 lines, progressively scanned) are upsampled to full 1080i. Because DRC processes video signals in real time, it creates an image with 4 times the density of the original signal. Sony's MID-X (Multi Image Driver) maintains the integrity of a converted signal by minimizing image loss in the scaling process.Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p and 720p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The set's auto 16:9 enhanced mode detects anamorphically encoded widescreen program sources and offers full picture resolution on the video program, wasting none of its usable lines of resolution on the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The KV-30HS420's high-voltage regulator maintains consistent image size, despite variations in brightness during scene changes and channel changes, while magnetic quadra-pole technology reduces "beam spot" distortion and improves corner-to-corner focus and picture sharpness.ClearEdge VM wideband velocity modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The set's 3D digital comb filter compares each horizontal scanning line with the lines above and below it, as well as with the corresponding lines on previous and subsequent video frames. This results in higher horizontal resolution, higher vertical resolution, and reduced video noise. The KV-30HS420 also employs CineMotion Reverse 3-2 PullDown technology (often called 3:2 pulldown), a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Finally, Dynamic Focus circuitry automatically adjusts the picture during each scanning line for consistent corner-to-corner sharpness. Two high-definition component-video inputs grant optimum connection with a DTV decoder and progressive-scan DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. The set's HDMI interface provides a digital connection with your DTV receiver. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable.Choose between rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience. A rear AV output offers a switchable fixed- and variable-level analog audio output for hookup with a surround receiver or integrated amplifier. The set features stereo speakers (with 15 watts per channel) and BBE sound enhancement. You can label the set's video inputs and channels for easy selection. If you don't have Dolby Pro Logic processing or a surround speaker system, the TV's SRS TruSurround will simulate surround sound through any 2 speakers.Other video technologies include auto white balance, Dynamic Picture Processor circuitry, Trinitone color temperature control, and vertical aperture compensation. An optional accessory for the set is the Sony audio/video cabinet SU-30HX1.What's in the Box TV, remote control (RM-Y188), 2 AA batteries, a user's manual, warranty information.

I bought this for my 32" LCD. it holds the TV up quite well, nice and sturdy. All the hardware that you need to mount it and the TV are included. The only complaint that I have is the part that bolts to the wall. It takes 3 screws on the top and 3 on the bottom in a triangular pattern. The 2 outer bolts are too far apart and had to be put in at an angle so they would hit the stud.

The Articulating LCD Wall Arm supports most 22" to 37" LCD screens and up to 42 inch TV. It folds flat against the wall or extends out up to 20". The two-link arm design provides easy tilt and up to 180 degrees of swivel for virtually limitless viewing positions. Fits most flat panel LCD TVs up to 42". Will It Fit my LCD? Please check the weight of your TV or LCD, it must be less than 66 lbs. If your LCD Monitor or TV has 4 or 6 holes on the back of the screen, and they are either 50 x 50 mm (2" x 2"), 75 x 75 mm (3" X 3") or 100x100 mm (4" x 4"), 200x100mm (8" x 4 "), or 200x200 (8" x 8") apart from each other horizontally or vertically, this bracket will fit. If you currently have a stand attached to your LCD TV this is usually removed prior to fitting the wall mount and 4 holes should be revealed. If your TV has VESA 400x200 or 600x400, this mount does not fit. You need a mount with larger TV plate. Please make sure what mount your TV needs before you place order. If you are not sure, please send us a message. We will check for you. This mount is VideoSecu brand. Please report to Amazon.com if you received a mount without VideoSecu logo
