The reason I wanted to get the X-Arm is because it is motorized and I can adjust my TV with my remote. My TV is over my fireplace in a cathedral ceiling sunken great room with a lot of windows. Due to the layout of our furniture, sun glare, and how many people might be watching TV at any one time, I find myself adjusting the TV a lot or closing the blinds. I had a traditional articulating mount, but it is a pain to stand up and adjust it nearly twice a day and even a bit dangerous for my wife because at 5'6' she can barely reach it, let alone my kids. I also didn't like the fact that I had to grip my TV to adjust it. I also love that when you turn the TV off it goes nearly flush against the wall which looks much better when the TV is off.
I don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience of a remote controllable motorized mount. And the price is not that different from a normal articulating mount which is basically just a piece of aluminum or steel without all the electronic gadgetry and engineering of the X-Arm.

Premier Mounts AM2 Swing-Out Arms For 17-Inch to 40-Inch LCD Screens (Silver) Review

Premier Mounts AM2 Swing-Out Arms For 17-Inch to 40-Inch LCD Screens (Silver)

I bought this for my new 20" LCD and I am very pleased. I was looking at the Omni Mount, which is about the same price. There were a couple of bad reviews for that one so I tried this one. I am glad I did. I am sure that is a good product, but this has a much better design. Unless the wall stud you are mounting the mount in is exactly in the middle of the spot you intend to mount the TV, you won't be happy with a cantilever type mount, pushed back flush against the wall, the cantilever mount will always rest the TV exactly where the stud is. This product allows much greater flexibility. The TV can be "offset" from the mounting base on either side so that you can center it on the wall when flush. It also does not have the "drooping" issue the reviews for the cantilever mount mentioned. The mount is very well made, I think it weighs more than the TV, and is attractive. If you want, you can even hide the wires in the tubes of the mount. My only complaint, mine didn't come with the mounting screws, but for less than $1.00 I bought them at Home Depot. I am very pleased and strongly recommend that you consider this mount for your TV.

I purchased this mount because I wanted the flexibility to position my new flat panel away from the wall at different angles and distances. I had seen a couple of others but was wary of the way they attached to the wall with just a single vertical bar. This one comes with a boilerplate quality rectangular plate that mounts with 4 large screws. There are plenty of screw holes to allow for variations in stud spacing. It is highly recommended that you have it professionally mounted, but since that can cost as much as the price of the mount itself, and I'm handy with stuff like this, I did it myself with a little help from two others. The biggest potential problem was mounting the wall plate level, because the the arm attaches to the hardware on the flat panel with just one screw and the slightest tilt could send the panel careening into the wall, especially if the arm is extended. You can tilt the mounting point where the TV is attached, but don't think that this will compensate for poor leveling. So if you get pro installation, make sure that they get it absolutely level, even if it doesn't look that way (your ceiling or floor may not be true level). If you mount it yourself, the biggest risk is dropping your TV or getting a hernia trying to hang it on the wall plate. Instead of mounting the TV with the arm attached (per the directions), consider mounting it with the arm attached to the wall plate instead. I followed the directions, and it was scary. Also, you may find the bolts provided for the TV hardware to be either too short or too long. That was my situation, so I sawed the ends off the long bolts rather than use the short ones.
The result overall is very good. The ability to bring the set a little closer to the viewer or have it against the wall helps to find the best viewing distance, which is tricky with a big screen. If you're a neatnik, this also makes cleaning behind the panel easy. Overall I would give it a 5, but the balance of the TV could be better engineered, with some rachets or locking points to prevent the set from swinging one way or the other. The only controls provided are just tightening down screws, which don't handle the weight well unless it is perfectly balanced. In practice, you may want to avoid extending the TV all the way from the wall for that reason. When I do extend it, I hold it in place for a moment and then take my hands off, seeing if it is going swing back into the wall. I suspect minor adjustments may be needed for a while to get the balance just right.

I really enjoy this wall mount for my 52" flat screen TV. Although installation was definitely a two-person job and the included instructions were a bit vague (and lots of extra hardware was included, confusingly), the final result is worth it. The TV can now rotate easily to be seen from any part of the room. The mechanism feels extremely sturdy and the swing action is smooth. The articulated joints are stiff enough to hold the TV in place, but rotate easily when repositioning the set.

I replaced a ( $100) older wall mount for a 32" and needed something really sturdy for my 40" Sony Bravia. I ordered this because it said it can mount up to a 5o" and I don't want to buy another mount if I get a larger TV.
This unit is a dual arm and weighs 52# (solid on the wall) I can swivel it to view out the patio door while sitting on the deck so it gets a lot of adjusting. It came with several different size screws and spacers so it was out of the box and up on the wall in no time.
I look forward to this mount being around for many future TV's
