(More customer reviews)I have always been impressed by Toshiba's televisions, and this one is no exception. I purchased this TV last week, and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. The picture looks great (especially DVDs through the component video inputs), the sound is way above average for a TV in this range, and the features are equal to what you'd find on pricier brands. Basically, Toshiba gives you the quality you want but without the huge pricetag. One thing made me sad though: only one set of Component Video inputs. So if you want that high quality Xbox experience in addition to DVDs, you'll have to switch it through your receiver (which is what I do). Anyway, great TV and great price.

Sharp X-Flat 32F630 Flat-Screen 32" TV Review

It really makes a difference when you're watching widescreen movies. You do really need to use the composite input to appreciate the picture quality of the TV, though. Overall its a great buy for those who love movies but don't want to dish out too much money.

The 32-inch 32F630 offers not only Sharp's elegant X-Flat cabinet design, but a flat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared to a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture--partly owing to the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light, but also due to Sharp's contrast enhancer and velocity-modulation scan technology. A great feature called V-compression even lets you view widescreen (letterboxed) DVDs in their native aspect ratio, in full resolution--none of the set's abilities are wasted in rendering the black bars necessary to display a movie in its original aspect ratio. (More customer reviews)You can get this TV for 400 or less. I picked one up for my girlfriend in November 2008, along with a Sharp BD player. We also run a PC to it with a wireless keyboard in order to watch TV through imdb and hulu, and their PS2, Xbox360 and Wii all run to it through a component video switch. We also hooked up an old Radio Shack antenna for HD brodcast TV (You don't need an "HD" antenna). Everything looks great!
If you're not going to use a calibration disc, like Digital Video Essentials, make sure you put it in Movie mode. You'll get weird artifacts in shadows in the default "sports" mode.
It doesn't automatically switch well between FS and Widescreen modes, so you may have to tell it the mode manually on occasion, and it defaults to Sports mode if it is unplugged. Those are my only two complaints.
BD titles and DVD titles look fantastic. I have a Pioneer Pro-111FD at home, and although it rocks, it did cost almost 8x the price. I don't mind watching a movie over there at all. The contrast is deep enough so you don't get those distracting washed-out blue-blacks, and the colors are bright and vivid. In fact, the picture at times is so jaw-dropping sharp and realistic (good source material), it looks almost 3D. I've looked at other bargain priced sets in the 32" size, priced around 500 or more. Save yourself a hundred or two and get this if you can find it. We/she and her family have been using it for about three months now and love it!

Panasonic's 32-inch HDTV-ready CT-32HL44 television provides state-of-the-art picture quality thanks to its innovative Tau PureFlat picture tube, which is perfectly suited to deliver outstanding home theater performance. It's compatible with both 1080i/480p HDTV displays, and it features a motion-adaptive 3D comb filter, selectable 16:9 viewing mode, progressive CinemaScan (3:2 pulldown), digital velocity scan modulation, and dual-tuner picture-in-picture.
Two-tuner picture-in-picture with split-screen display lets you view two programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right.
Progressive CinemaScan (3:2 pulldown) provides faithful reproduction of film-based materials. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; Progressive Cinema Scan digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
The motion-adaptive digital comb filter prevents any two lines with different colors from being processed together in the comb filter at the same time, minimizing any "hanging dots" in the image. With digital velocity scan modulation, advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses shifts from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in improved transitions.
This set has a built-in 181-channel tuner, though you'll need an optional HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. The two built-in speakers (15 watts apiece) provide simulated surround sound and BBE high-definition audio enhancement, which helps restore the dynamic range of musical passages to help provide a more natural sound.

Tech Talk Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Traditional television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television has either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. A 16:9 aspect ratio is widescreen and appears rectangular, which looks more like a movie screen, filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience. I would have liked an additional audio output, but other than that I am very pleased with the purchase.

Samsung's 32-inch TXM3296HF DynaFlat high-definition digital TV monitor offers up to 800 lines of horizontal resolution and full 1080i input capability for use with a DTV set-top box or a DVD player. (More customer reviews)I just purchased this Dynex 32" flat-screen HD tv over the Christmas Holidays at a sale price of $249. I thought that considering its low price, this would be a mediocre unit at best but I was pleasantly surprised. The image is absolutely fantastic and has all the features of a higher priced flat screen TV. While it is only a 720 model, this is not a problem in the 32" size (as a matter of fact, they say 1080s can look over pixelated on a 32"screen). I am very, very pleased with this TV. The only drawback is that the sound is a little tinny. The addition of a sound bar would make this a perfect 10! This was an entry-level flat screen for me which I have placed in my bedroom. It is really a wonderful television and I highly recommend it for anyone. As a starter model, if it was a car, it would be like having an AUDI or a BMW for your first vehicle! (More customer reviews)Pros: Attractive unit, decent sound, great size screen, comes with stand and wall mount (most tvs don't come with wall mount).
Cons: Non-HD signals look pixellated. My Direct TV digital satellite feed looks very good, but there are image artifacts that result in occasional blurriness or distortion. It is a minor annoyance. My progressive scan DVD looks excellent, but still not perfect. (I do not have an HD signal as of yet, so I can't speak to how this looks). The manual is pathetic. The INPUTS/OUTPUTS are very weird. My 20" Sony Wega LCD has all that it should, but for some reason, Phillips was really on drugs when it made this unit. In order to get the progressive scan quality, I CANNOT simply connect using a Component cable; instead, I have to use Phillips supplied hybrid cable. In fact, when I first tried the component, I got no image whatsoever... just sound. And although it looks like they have a multitude of imputs, several "share" a slot. It is very weird. And I simply don't understand a TV being built without AUDIO OUT. Speaking of Audio, the unit sounds just fine, exhibiting good volume and separation. But as I try out the different equilizer modes (Theatre, Music, Personal, etc.), I can detect no difference whatsoever.
While I am happy with this TV, I feel that it is overpriced for what it offers; moroever, I feel it is advertised as having more than it really does. This unit would be a reasonable purchase for three to five hundred less (which I'm sure it will be next year). The Sony Wegas and Sharp Aquos are superior, but much more expensive.

VIZIO VO320E 32-Inch ECO 720p LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)Although I work in a technical field and love all the new gadgets and gizmos as they come out, I consider myself on the "trailing edge" of technology. That is, I don't buy the new stuff until it drops considerably in price, whether it be GPS, I-Pods, or HDTV's.
Even this season, with my 42 inch rear projection CRT TV (bought used for $200), I wasn't ready to make the jump to HDTV. My satellite service is in Standard Def, and just saw no reason to go to HDTV....yet.
Well, my trusty 42 inch decided to take a permanent vacation and without a lot of cash (read zero....) budgeted for a new TV, and two teenagers in the house (which elevates TV from a luxury to a necessity), I went about looking for a cheap "interim" TV that would fill in the gap.
Off to WalMart with little or no expectations and I started pricing around.
I live in a small apartment, and although I was initially was hell bent to not go below 42 inches, my lack of liquid assets quickly told me that 42 inches was a bit above my price range.
I found this TV on sale for $398.00. The picture blew away anything else in it's size and price range. And being almost 300.00 cheaper than a comparable 42 inch model, I decided to eat my pride and save some green.
Like others here, I find the whole "eco/green" crap a little out of control, but in the case of this TV the whole ECO thing does two things.
1. The TV is amazingly light. At just over 24 lbs with the stand, this TV is a joy to move around compared to that 42" tank.
2. The TV is EXTREMELY energy efficient. At approx 85W operating and .33W standby (thanks to a slightly annoying amber VIZIO logo that can't be turned off without unplugging....), my kids blow more electricity going to the bathroom than I spend watching my favorite DVD.
The fact that this TV is energy efficient is great, but if the picture is lousy, then it don't mean jack. I mean a TV that I won't watch because it looks like garbage is great on energy efficiency because it's off!!!
Thankfully this is not the case. With a 15000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio and a pretty nice Viewing angle this TV is perfect for my small Apartment Living Room. In fact moving out that 42 inch rear projection on favor of this box actually makes the Living Room look less crowded.
Now some of you may think that 32 inches for a living room is too small, but considering most of us were singing the praises of the "mighty" 27" TV 10 years ago, saying 32" is now too small is a bit disengenuous.
But for larger rooms, you will find yourself spoiled and wish you had a bigger screen. But for my apartment, it's just about perfect.
The one thing I didn't expect is the enhanced DVD viewing performance. Due to the 4:3 contrast ratio of my 42" TV, when I watched widescreen DVD's the actual usable picture size on my old TV was less than the what I get on the 32". So now my DVD's are actually "larger" on my "smaller" TV.
On to HD....Being raised on Standard Def, I thought the hype surrounding HD was just that...Hype....WRONG!!!
For 15 bucks I picked up a cheap "wall mount" antenna that I can use to pick up "off the air" HD broadcasts to watch my weekend football, and all I can say is HOLY COW!!!! Even with the smaller picture, the clarity and detail in HD broadcasts just makes the picture jump out.
Overall, I am shocked at how much I love this TV. It is small enough to transport home without trouble, light enough to place on a cheap 15 dollar TV stand, and the picture is outstanding.
What started out being an "interim" TV for the time being, just may be my size of choice for as long as I live here. At 32" the TV is certainly big enough for comfortable viewing, but not so large as to overshadow the rest of the living room.
At $400 this TV easily falls into the "best bang for the buck" category for HDTV's of any size. Smaller screens just won't cut it for a family room of any size at all, and the price savings is not worth it. 37 inch models are not too common so your choices are limited in this area. The next "common" size is 42" and will easily run you almost double. Also, if you do go to 42" or higher, if you have DVD's or still some "standard def" cable/satellite, the imperfections of standard def will be that much more noticable on a larger screen.
The instruction manual and quick setup guide are very well written, and you will have this TV setup in no time. The TV has a myriad of ways to connect up to various video sources, including two HDMI ports, Component Video, Svideo, SVGA, and coaxial. It even has an audio out that you can output to a set of amplified speakers or inexpensive surround system.
One last thing to keep in mind. This TV is 720P and upscales to 1080i. This is the default resolution of all OTA HD broadcasts. 1080P is used mainly for PS3 and Blueray, plus a few Video on Demand services. So unless you are into Blueray, or PS3, 1080P would be a waste of money for you. Add this to the fact that, as others have mentioned, your ability to differentiate 1080P and 720P on a set of this size is negligible.
In short, if you are looking for a great looking TV for your bedroom or your apartment/condo living room, you really can't go wrong with this model. Especially at this price point.
The combination of Size, Picture Quality, Features, and Price make this as close to a must buy product as I can remember in a long time.

(More customer reviews)This TV is quite impressive, especially for the money. There are plenty of inputs, many of which are conveniently located on the side of the panel. As far as the picture goes, the color is fantastic, and the contrast is pretty good as well. Where this TV falls short is the uneven back-lighting. In a low light setting watching a dark scene, you can see portions of the screen are brighter than others, which can be annoying at best and distracting at worst. Aside from that, I have no complaints with the television. Were money no object, I'm sure the Proscan would rate lower, however the value you get out of this TV for the price is hard to match. It is a very fine budget LCD HDTV.

(More customer reviews)Bought this TV for the bedroom. It has a fantastic picture and great sound quality. One great feature is the automatic picture adjustment based on the room ambient lighting, saves having to mess around with the picture when you flip on the side table lamp. Also the factory color presets actually support the intended display, example: cinema setting looks more like film.
The only thing this set doesn't have that I would have like is an IP/Ethernet port. Otherwise I am extremely happy. Plenty of HDMI ports too.
