Toshiba 32AF44 32" TV with FST PURE Flat Screen Review

Toshiba 32AF44 32 TV with FST PURE Flat Screen

I have always been impressed by Toshiba's televisions, and this one is no exception. I purchased this TV last week, and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. The picture looks great (especially DVDs through the component video inputs), the sound is way above average for a TV in this range, and the features are equal to what you'd find on pricier brands. Basically, Toshiba gives you the quality you want but without the huge pricetag. One thing made me sad though: only one set of Component Video inputs. So if you want that high quality Xbox experience in addition to DVDs, you'll have to switch it through your receiver (which is what I do). Anyway, great TV and great price.

Note: Toshiba 32AF44 32" TV with FST PURE Flat Screen is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing the newer Toshiba 32AF45 32" Flat Screen CRT TV instead.
Feature-rich and amazingly affordable, Toshiba's 32-inch 32AF44 offers big-screen quality for a standard-screen price. The versatile CRT television is equipped to deliver vivid, high-contrast pictures FST PURE flat picture tube, which looks great and minimizes geometric distortions in the process. Generous connection options and parental controls let you and your kids use the set for a variety of applications. The 32AF44's 3-line digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Meanwhile, velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.Toshiba provides 2 user-selectable 16:9 modes for displaying widescreen images. Letterbox mode scans the entire screen, creating gray bars above and below the picture area, significantly reducing the chances of uneven CRT wear or "burn-in." The set's vertical compression mode uses all available scan lines to represent the widescreen, letterboxed image with as much clarity and detail as possible. The 5-watts-per-channel set receives stereo audio programming and SAP (second audio program), often used to broadcast an alternate-language track. The 32AF44 derives a heightened sense of stereo separation from its double-baffle speaker system, and BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.A ColorStream component-video input provides the ultimate picture quality from interlaced component-video signals; standard composite-video inputs accommodate all DVD players and most other video sources. You get 2 sets of rear AV inputs (one of which has S-video) as well as one set of front AV inputs for easy connection with a camcorder or gaming console. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. The 32AF44 also features V-Chip parental controls, GameTimer, a sleep timer, and a glow-in-the-dark, 4-device universal remote control with DVD operation. What's in the Box Television, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Samsung TX-S2783 27" Slimfit TV Review

Samsung TX-S2783 27 Slimfit TV

I checked with the spec and Sumsung website, this is just a SDTV without HDMI input. This is definitely not a HDTV.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Samsung TX-S2783 27" Slimfit TV

Enjoy all channels across the standard and high-definition spectrum with the 27-inch Samsung TXS2783 CRT SDTV. At just 16.6 inches, it has a much thinner profile than conventional CRT sets and it's packed to the gills with advanced video and audio features. While this set only displays video in the analog 480i (interlaced) format, it does include a built-in ATSC tuner to receive digital signals through antenna--allowing you access to both standard and HD channels. A standard 181-channel NTSC tuner receives regular broadcast and cable channels.
Samsung's DynaFlat screen increases the viewing angle while minimizing distortion and glare, and the TXS2783 has a 4:3 aspect ratio. Along with a digital comb filter (which separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges), dynamic black level expansion and a white peak limiter features work to deliver a crisp, clear picture. The velocity scan modulation function improves black to white image transitions for sharper detail and enhanced picture definition in high brightness operating conditions.
Choose the mode (standard, dynamic, movie, or custom with adjustable brightness, contrast, sharpness, and color selections) that best suits the program you're watching. You can also select from five screen filling modes--normal, wide, zoom 1, zoom 2, or panorama (which stretches less in the middle and more towards the edge). It has a number of convenience features, including Remote Surf timer (returns TV to original channel so other channels can be browsed during commercial breaks), sleep timer, V-Chip parental controls, auto channel programming, and tri-lingual on-screen displays (English, French, and Spanish).
It features two built-in, 3.5-watt speakers and right/left stereo output for connection to a home theater audio system. The MTS stereo sound system can play SAP (Secondary Audio Program) audio whenever a broadcast or recording includes a secondary language track. The Auto Volume Leveler feature keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing to minimize static sound bursts, and it offers four preset sound modes (standard, movie, music, and speech). Enjoy progressive scan DVD playback or game play using the component video inputs. The full line-up of video and audio connections includes:
Composite AV In (RCA): 1
S-Video In: 1
Component Video In: 1
RF In: 1

Tech Talk Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
High Definition Formats: The most common high-def (HD) video format is 720p, which displays video at 720 vertical by 1280 horizontal pixels. The "p" denotes that it is progressive scan, meaning that all video lines are filled at the same time. The 1080i format displays video at 1080 vertical by 1920 horizontal pixels, and the "i" means that it is interlaced (the old-school way of presenting video where the screen scans the odd-numbered video lines first, then the even-numbered lines). The 1080p format has the same pixel resolution as 1080i, but it is a progressive scan format and thus has a constant vertical resolution of 1080 lines. Standard definition television programming has a 480i format, but some sets provide a progressive 480p enhanced definition (EDTV) display.
Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

PDR Mounts PDR3760T Tilt Wall Mount for 37" to 60" Displays (Black) Review

PDR Mounts PDR3760T Tilt Wall Mount for 37 to 60 Displays (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I finally took the plunge to by a new HD TV. I decided on the Samsung LNT4065F 40" 1080p LCD HDTV (~35 pounds). I bought this mount because I have to locate the TV above my existing desk, so I needed the ability to either have it against the wall, or extended out in front of the desk. Installation was a breeze, I did it myself although you should really have two people (one to hold the mount, the other to screw the lag bolt in the stud). I was able to find the manual for this online before I bought it to verify all the dimensions.
PDR Mounts actually received my rebate form and actually called me to see if I was happy with the product. This is a refreshing difference from most rebate forms! Usually most companies may or may not send you a check back and I've never got a call back before. PDR went above and beyond most companies in this respect.
Minor (very minor) annoyance: When I went to level it, I found that the front mounting bracket frame was maybe 2-5 degrees tilted vs. the wall mount piece. So I ended up leveling in in reference to the front mounting bracket instead of the wall mount piece so the TV is perfectly level now.
--- Update! ---
I just received the rebate check. This is amazing, since I received in just about 2 weeks. Never received a rebate so fast.

Sharp X-Flat 32F630 Flat-Screen 32" TV Review

Sharp X-Flat 32F630 Flat-Screen 32 TV

I bought this television a few months ago and I must say that it was worth every penny. The picture is sharp and clear and the 16:9 pulldown is awesome. It really makes a difference when you're watching widescreen movies. You do really need to use the composite input to appreciate the picture quality of the TV, though. Overall its a great buy for those who love movies but don't want to dish out too much money.

The 32-inch 32F630 offers not only Sharp's elegant X-Flat cabinet design, but a flat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared to a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture--partly owing to the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light, but also due to Sharp's contrast enhancer and velocity-modulation scan technology. A great feature called V-compression even lets you view widescreen (letterboxed) DVDs in their native aspect ratio, in full resolution--none of the set's abilities are wasted in rendering the black bars necessary to display a movie in its original aspect ratio. Velocity-modulation scan improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The 32F630's three-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt). The set provides stereo audio (with five watts per channel) from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals. EquiSound keeps differing program levels from blaring out at you. A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between a set of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs (tasteful hidden when not in use) for extra convenience. A rear audio output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver; you can choose a fixed- or variable-level output (variable lets you adjust the volume through the TV's remote). If you don't have a six-channel speaker setup for DVD audio, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: SRS TruSurround simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV). The set also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), ID labeling for channels and inputs, closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, and a universal remote control.

I have a Sony 51 inch high-definition tv also, but a couple of years ago I saw this tv at a friends house, hooked up to cable. The picture was amazing. Yesterday we bought one for our den and hooked up to DISH network (satelite) the picture is also the best I've ever seen for a tube tv. Plus it's easy to use and set up and has a feature called CLEAR EDGE that makes the picture even sharper. The only knock is the weight, about 180 pounds. You need two people to move this tv, it is heavy. But heavy usually means quality and this tv is the best on the market in this price range.

Sony's high-value KV-32FS120 32-inch WEGA television packs a wealth of video technologies that guarantee sharp, vivid pictures from a range of sources. The set's FD (flat display) Trinitron WEGA flat-screen technology delivers high image accuracy, wide viewing angles, and corner-to-corner detail with no geometric image distortion. The visually flat FD Trinitron tube minimizes annoying glare from light sources, enhancing contrast. Squares are square, straight lines appear straight, and circles are truly circular. One of the KV-32FS120's coolest features is its 16:9 enhanced mode, which delivers maximum picture quality by concentrating all viewable scan lines within a letterboxed image--wasting none of its horizontal resolution on rendering the black bars that border a widescreen image.Clear Edge VM wideband velocity modulation improves definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The set's digital comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt), while magnetic quadra-pole technology reduces "beam spot" distortion and improves corner-to-corner focus and picture sharpness.Program Palette presets offer combinations of picture settings engineered to make the most of specific entertainment types. Settings include vivid, standard, movie, and sports. Channel fix lets you select a specific TV channel (3, for example) for cable box reception. Then you can control a compatible cable box via the TV remote without inadvertently changing the TV from Channel 3.Top-of-the-line component-video inputs (Y/PB/PR) minimize digital and line-scan artifacts from compatible video sources, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. A coaxial RF input accepts a feed from an antenna or an older VCR or cable box. Choose from 2 sets of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience when hooking up a camcorder or gaming console. A rear AV output offers fixed-/variable-level analog audio outputs for hookup with a surround receiver. The set produces stereo audio and BBE sound enhancement with 10 watts per channel through built-in speakers.Other video technologies include auto white balance (which establishes the picture's tint, or hue, by adjusting sensitivity to red, green, and blue light, resulting in truer whites), Dynamic Picture Processor circuitry, tilt correction, Trinitone color temperature control, and vertical aperture compensation (which sharpens picture definition and edge detail on the vertical plane). BROKSONIC - 32" Wide HD Digital LCD TV Review

BROKSONIC - 32 Wide HD Digital LCD TV

You can get this TV for 400 or less. I picked one up for my girlfriend in November 2008, along with a Sharp BD player. We also run a PC to it with a wireless keyboard in order to watch TV through imdb and hulu, and their PS2, Xbox360 and Wii all run to it through a component video switch. We also hooked up an old Radio Shack antenna for HD brodcast TV (You don't need an "HD" antenna). Everything looks great!
If you're not going to use a calibration disc, like Digital Video Essentials, make sure you put it in Movie mode. You'll get weird artifacts in shadows in the default "sports" mode.
It doesn't automatically switch well between FS and Widescreen modes, so you may have to tell it the mode manually on occasion, and it defaults to Sports mode if it is unplugged. Those are my only two complaints.
BD titles and DVD titles look fantastic. I have a Pioneer Pro-111FD at home, and although it rocks, it did cost almost 8x the price. I don't mind watching a movie over there at all. The contrast is deep enough so you don't get those distracting washed-out blue-blacks, and the colors are bright and vivid. In fact, the picture at times is so jaw-dropping sharp and realistic (good source material), it looks almost 3D. I've looked at other bargain priced sets in the 32" size, priced around 500 or more. Save yourself a hundred or two and get this if you can find it. We/she and her family have been using it for about three months now and love it!

With the upcoming years in electronics coming up, the whole television signal will be completely changed from the traditional NTSC analog, to the ATSC signal, many people don't know which kind of a television to buy. Although it is tough, many people can't afford the HDTV's, many are considering EDTV's, and SDTV's instead. Sylvania does know that feeling for all consumers. They've definitely made some of the best quality electronics on the market, and still bring out the best that is affordable. This television does bring out that theory well for anyone who wants a new television.
The Sylvania LD200SL8 is a 20 inch LCD television is a lightweight and convient DTV to buy, at a affordable price. The television is easy to setup and easy to operate. At a lightwieght 17 pounds, it is easy to place on your entertainment center, or hang on your television mount. The television also is sleek, and includes a DVD player that works well. It is compatable to nearly all DVD playback compatablities. It is capable of playing DVD+/-RW discs in Video mode only (not VR mode as the case with Sylvania's DVD recorders), MP3 CD's and traditional CD's. The sound really is great to listen to in crisp dolby digital sound for your favorite movies and television shows. The display is delightful and looks great, and elequently well for your cable box, as well video game systems like the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. There is one disadvantage, you can't change the screen from 16x9 widescreen, unless you have a HD converter box or antenna.
All in all, the Sylvania LD200SL8 is a great TV/DVD combo at an affordable price for those who trust Sylvania, and for anybody on a budget. I really like Sylvania's brands of electronics, and I really recommend this for anyone who wants to change with the times, but not strectch so much out of the price.

Sony KV-27FS120 27-Inch FD Trinitron WEGA Flat Screen TV Review

Sony KV-27FS120 27-Inch FD Trinitron WEGA Flat Screen TV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As the title states, this television "is" perfection! I purchased this approximately a year ago as the centerpiece to a second system and have since found it to be one of the wisest television purchases I've ever made. The only mistake that I made was not getting the model that included the picture-in-picture feature. In conjunction with the Sony SLV-N700 Hi-Fi VHS VCR and the Sony DVP-NS325S DVD Player (Silver), this small system has worked beautifully, with this exceptionally outstanding FD Trinitron WEGA TV enhancing the viewing/listening experience with its superior quality in image and sound!
As features go, there is little to want for that this marvelous television set does not have as is detailed in the editorial review and the technical specifications on the front page for this product, there are however, some wonderful features that I would like to highlight in this review. One of the most important aspects of a purchase such as this is a well written and thought out operating manual with clear and concise setup directions and Sony has done an outstanding job with that whereas many other manufacturers do so miserably.
Given that there are four separate video inputs for this exceptional TV, it can be, as I've been using it, set up as a system independent of a stereo receiver and you can have up to four different devices such as a VCR player, DVD player and camcorder attached to with no problems and still have room for one more device of your choice. Given for such wonderful performance as a stand alone set as functionality goes, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal in a television set of this quality and price range.
The on screen menu system is perfect on this set, possessing a majority of the functions that a customer would enjoy. Among those features are parental controls; two timers and a sleep timer; four different preset video modes; color temperature; VM (Velocity Modulation; audio setting to include treble, bass, balance, effects and MTS.
The remote is also a picture of perfection providing you've set yourself up with a Sony "system" as you can control the television, the VCR and the DVD player with it, providing that much more ease of use without having to keep track of two or more remotes at once.
For the consummate audio and videophile such as me, this is an outstanding television set! I highly recommend this or any other outstanding Sony television set to any and all who demand quality from their television sets without wishing to dish out much higher dollars for HD and flat panel sets that are "way" over priced at this time. {ssintrepid}

Sony's KV-27FS120 27-inch WEGA television is a CRT (cathode-ray tube) set that's both stylish and feature-packed. A silver cabinet houses a flat-screen Trinitron picture tube that cuts down on glare and minimizes image distortion. A host of technologies ensure vivid, distortion-free viewing. One of the coolest features is the KV-27FS120's 16:9 enhanced mode, which delivers maximum picture quality by concentrating all viewable scan lines within a letterboxed image--wasting none of its horizontal resolution on rendering the black bars that border a widescreen image.Velocity modulation (selectable: off, high, low) improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The set's three-line digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).Top-of-the-line component-video inputs minimize digital and line-scan artifacts from compatible video sources, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. We purchased this TV because the picture quality was better than the Sony Wega. It also fits perfectly in our entertainment center where the JVC or the Sony have those large speakers on the side that make it impossible for it to fit into any center that is equiped to hold a 32" TV.

Panasonic's 32-inch HDTV-ready CT-32HL44 television provides state-of-the-art picture quality thanks to its innovative Tau PureFlat picture tube, which is perfectly suited to deliver outstanding home theater performance. It's compatible with both 1080i/480p HDTV displays, and it features a motion-adaptive 3D comb filter, selectable 16:9 viewing mode, progressive CinemaScan (3:2 pulldown), digital velocity scan modulation, and dual-tuner picture-in-picture.
Two-tuner picture-in-picture with split-screen display lets you view two programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right.
Progressive CinemaScan (3:2 pulldown) provides faithful reproduction of film-based materials. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; Progressive Cinema Scan digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
The motion-adaptive digital comb filter prevents any two lines with different colors from being processed together in the comb filter at the same time, minimizing any "hanging dots" in the image. With digital velocity scan modulation, advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses shifts from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in improved transitions.
This set has a built-in 181-channel tuner, though you'll need an optional HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. The two built-in speakers (15 watts apiece) provide simulated surround sound and BBE high-definition audio enhancement, which helps restore the dynamic range of musical passages to help provide a more natural sound.
The CT-32HL44 has 4 composite A/V inputs (1 front), 3 S-video inputs (1 front), 2 component-video inputs, 1 RF, 1 headphone jack. It adds an HDMI connection, providing high-quality, uncompressed digital audio/video signal transmission.
Tech Talk Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Traditional television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television has either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. A 16:9 aspect ratio is widescreen and appears rectangular, which looks more like a movie screen, filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience. HDMI-HDCP interface: HDMI is a new standard digital connection between A/V devices, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver, and a digital television. HDMI offers exceptional video and audio quality with a single quick-disconnect connector. I own this TV for more than a year and it never gave me any problem. The first time one connects a TV, one MUST go through the settings with on-screen instructions - very easy. However, if it's not done correctly, then you may have a `bad' picture, dropping, etc. Those are also easy to correct, if you know how to operate the settings.
Colors are great, love my HD channels - wouldn't trade for anything. My TV is almost 20hrs a day on, so I know what I'm talking about.
If someone is in doubt, a warranty a must. I love it and recommend to anyone.

I am very impressed with this tv. As far as I could find, it is by far the cheapest 32" flat screen HDTV you can buy! The speakers sound much better than I expected. The picture on regular cable tv is great and dvds are fabulous.
I would have liked an additional audio output, but other than that I am very pleased with the purchase.

Samsung's 32-inch TXM3296HF DynaFlat high-definition digital TV monitor offers up to 800 lines of horizontal resolution and full 1080i input capability for use with a DTV set-top box or a DVD player. The set uses a 4:3 aspect ratio DynaFlat HDTV screen with anti-distortion/anti-glare picture tube. The Pro Chip Plus NTSC-to-480-progressive-scan line-doubling system converts incoming analog sources (like VCR, cable, and non-progressive-scan DVD) to a progressive-scan 480p display, eliminating conventional TV scan lines for a flicker-free picture. Total DSP (digital signal processing) converts standard analog broadcast TV signals to digital and compensates for varying signal strengths, and Defining Filter three-line combing technology removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl. The set also includes an Invar shadow mask for heightened contrast.
Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. Other features include 10 watts per channel audio power, V-Chip parental controls, and plug-and-play setup, which uses automation and a simple menu to select the source (broadcast or cable), set the clock, and map the active channels.
Inputs consist of a dual DVD/DTV component-video input (Y/Pb/Pr), an RF input (for an older VCR or cable box), and three rear and one set of side audio-video inputs (including one S-video input) to accommodate a camcorder, a game console, or other sources. A .125-inch headphone jack and one set of audio-video outputs are also available. The set comes with a universal remote control.

I WON this TV's little brother (19" version). It was a drawing from Budweiser.
I hooked it up with not much trouble, I'm not a fan of those down facing connectors.
I was "forced" to go through the channel scan even though I was using the RGB connectors. I just hooked it to cable long enough to finish the set-up and then disconnected it.
It took a little fiddling to get the picture all over the screen (instead of a little box in the middle). I got it up to 1081 16:9 so it looks great!
My old set was a 26" CRT (heavy!) this one fits in my backpack (almost). It's got a sturdy wide base so no need to worry about the cat tipping it over.

Pros: Attractive unit, decent sound, great size screen, comes with stand and wall mount (most tvs don't come with wall mount).
Cons: Non-HD signals look pixellated. My Direct TV digital satellite feed looks very good, but there are image artifacts that result in occasional blurriness or distortion. It is a minor annoyance. My progressive scan DVD looks excellent, but still not perfect. (I do not have an HD signal as of yet, so I can't speak to how this looks). The manual is pathetic. The INPUTS/OUTPUTS are very weird. My 20" Sony Wega LCD has all that it should, but for some reason, Phillips was really on drugs when it made this unit. In order to get the progressive scan quality, I CANNOT simply connect using a Component cable; instead, I have to use Phillips supplied hybrid cable. In fact, when I first tried the component, I got no image whatsoever... just sound. And although it looks like they have a multitude of imputs, several "share" a slot. It is very weird. And I simply don't understand a TV being built without AUDIO OUT. Speaking of Audio, the unit sounds just fine, exhibiting good volume and separation. But as I try out the different equilizer modes (Theatre, Music, Personal, etc.), I can detect no difference whatsoever.
While I am happy with this TV, I feel that it is overpriced for what it offers; moroever, I feel it is advertised as having more than it really does. This unit would be a reasonable purchase for three to five hundred less (which I'm sure it will be next year). The Sony Wegas and Sharp Aquos are superior, but much more expensive.

If your like me, I wanted an HDTV without paying a fortune, and this is the one to get. Under $600 at Walmart in Nov. 08. I had a Comcast tech hook up my HD box and this TV was accepting the 1080i signal even though the ad says 720p. The picture looks like a bright and vibrant professionally taken photograph! No complaints. What I really liked is sometimes the HD signal will cut off the bottom and top of the picture but the VISIO has an easy menu that quickly allows you to adjust the vertical size without distorting the picture so you can always watch a full screen. Sound quality is pretty good with the built in speakers but would be awesome with a surround sound system. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with the purchase of this HDTV. Nice looking TV too! Remote is simply laid out, user friendly and functional without being overly complicated. This is the VW37L model which is the newest offering from VISIO. I am a happy HDTV camper!

Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I reasearched quite a bit before buying this TV. It is a great value. Looking at TVs on display in stores, other LCDs didn't have very dark blacks and a lot had those weird pixelly trails when there was fast motion. The 37HL67 doesn't have either of these problems. It has a great picture - bright, good color and contrast. The controls are easy to use. The picture and built in sound are great. I hooked up an old amplified antenna I had and the tuner got almost all of our local HDTV stations. I just ordered an antenna made for HDTV Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception and expect that to work even better. In case you came across this in your search, the 37HL17 is the exact same model as this one, it just has a different number as it is usually shipped to a different type of retailer. All in all, I am very happy with this TV and would recommend it highly.
The connections on the back:
3 HDMI inputs
coaxial input for cable/antenna
computer monitor VGA-type input
2 sets of component video (3 phono/RCA type plugs)/stereo audio (2 phono plugs) inputs
1 analog video (single yellow phono plug)/audio in with s-video option
1 optical TOSLINK audio out
1 main stereo (red/white phono plug) audio out
one stereo audio in (red/white phono plug) for use with either the HDMI or computer monitor in
A 2nd analog video/audio in on the side of the TV for a camcorder or whatever

Toshiba's Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor.
The 37HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen.

The Value of LCD TVs Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 37HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.

Connections The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It can also make these connections to your audio and video components:
HDMI inputs: 3
ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
PC monitor input: 1 VGA 15 Pin D-sub
S-video input: 1
A/V inputs: 2

Audio The unit's SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system.

37-inch wide screen A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 37HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of 8 to 14 feet.
