Westinghouse SK-32H590D 32-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player Review

Westinghouse SK-32H590D 32-Inch LCD HDTV with Built-In DVD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this TV for home use. I was looking for a self-contained unit that would perform well on its own without the need for added components. This is my second LCD TV purchase and, while electronically savvy, I'm not obsessive about every detail (I have not spent hours looking for burned out pixels with a magnifying glass or cycled through every menu option searching for bugs). Thus far, I am very pleased with this television. For a videophile, this might be a good second/bedroom/kids TV. This would also be a good TV for an office training room.
I looked at several different models before settling on this model. I initially looked at the Westinghouse LTV32W432 with built-in DVD player but the reviews were lackluster and the unit appeared to have some quirks (like DVDs always commencing with subtitles). The SK-32H590D32 appears to be the successor unit and Westinghouse seems to have corrected all of the issues from the LTV32W432.
I found the picture to be first-rate for a sub-$1000 LCD TV. I looked at a 32" Sony Bravia ($1200) and several other models in stores and the picture on this unit easily compares. It is worth noting that, if you only have analog cable, the picture on this TV (or any other LCD/Plasma TV) will be a touch grainy. That said, digital cable and DVDs on this model are strikingly clean and clear.
The audio seems more than adequate for a self-contained unit. It's not THx Dolby Digital theater surround sound, but it has decent depth, is clear, and has simple adjustments for treble, bass and balance.
Esthetically the TV has a nice look with a simple Westinghouse logo and a DVD slot on the front (the DVD slot has a blue LED inside which you can toggle on or off). Note that the TV is, more or less, matte black with a small polished metal bar on the bottom and not grey as it appears on the Amazon page. It has a fairly low depth profile - 5.9 inches without stand - which is amazing considering the it has a front loading DVD. The unit is also relatively light (less than 50 lbs) and has an X screw holes on the back for wall mounting (for first time flat screen TV buyers, note that if you want to mount this unit on the wall, you will need to buy a wall mounting bracket separately). This TV also has all of the controls - volume, channel, mode - cleanly mounted out of view on the right side (for when the remote inevitably gets misplaced).
The remote and menus are simple and easy to use. The TV started up out of the box with a few simple questions (day, date, cable station search) and was ready to watch. The single, simple remote for both TV and DVD was refreshing (might be a good TV for a less than technically savvy person - elderly parents or inept officemates come to mind). I found the menus/settings much like the Microsoft Windows "Start Menu" (thus being familiar) and found them intuitive and easy to use.
All-in-all I found this to be a good sub-$1000 LCD TV and, so far, think it was very much worth the price.
2010 Update: DVD player broke after 2 years - unrepairable.

Premier Mounts PCM-MS2 Universal Tilting Flat Panel Mount For 37-Inch?61-Inch LCD/Plasma Displays Review

Premier Mounts PCM-MS2 Universal Tilting Flat Panel Mount For 37-Inch61-Inch LCD/Plasma Displays
Average Reviews:

This mount has two main advantages over some: 1) the ability to have some side to side offset in case your framing does not line up exactly with the center lines of the mount; 2) multiple mounting points some distance apart making the attachment very solid. The fact that the are two mounting pieces causes no real extra work, there is a template included that makes aligning the two pieces almost trivial. In my case I figured out where I needed the bottom plate, mounted it, set the template on top, set the top plate on top of the template, marked the holes, mounted the top piece and everything lined up perfectly.
Two slight problems stop this from getting a perfect score: 1) the bolt mounting slots in the plates are a little restrictive, I could have used about an inch more play to get everything perfectly lined up (my studs are way off the relative center point). 2) it's a little hard to get the locking screws into the mount once you have your TV mounted to the wall, screws with allen heads and a long allen key (as on some other designs) would make this easier.

Sharp Aquos LC37D43U 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Sharp Aquos LC37D43U 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a college student with Xbox 360, I was looking to get into high definition without spending over a thousand dollars. At the time (last fall), this limited me to a 32" LCD, most of which were still significantly over my budget at brick-and-mortar electronics stores. I knew I wouldn't be buying Sony (too overpriced) and I refused to buy a brand like Vizio or Olevia because you get what you pay for, despite what owners claim. After doing about a half year of online and in-store research, I had narrowed my search down to Samsung and LG 32" LCDs, preferring the more expensive Samsung. I then decided to play the waiting game for prices to drop within my range. This year, though, using Amazon user reviews and AVS Forums as sources, I had to throw the new Sharp in with my prospective choices. About two months ago, a wholesale store had a sale on the 37" set that fell exactly at my price limit and I decided to pull the trigger.
I've used the set now for two months and I'm convinced that I made an excellent decision. Aesthetically, this television is beautiful and it is surprising how tiny the bezel seems. I'm still not used to the size of this thing, especially because I had been set on a 32" and I lived in a dorm room. I think that 37" is about as big as I could have gone because of viewing distance. I was worried about the fact that there were only two component and two HDMI inputs, but my amplified over-the-air antenna plugged into the coaxial jack and the digital HD broadcasts were phenomenal, with surround sound, too (Durham, NC area). If your cable provider feeds digital channels without a converter box, this set has a QAM tuner to pick those up, too, along with the mandated ATSC tuner and NTSC as well. At home right now for the summer I've got it hooked up to a Verizon FiOS set top box via HDMI and, with some adjustment, the picture is spectacular. Gaming with Xbox 360 is perfect, with vibrant colors and no perceived lag due to the 6ms response time - I couldn't be happier with that. Black levels are where this set really shines, and they look truly black, which has historically been the dealbreaker with LCD panels. With this Aquos, I get deep blacks without having ANY worries about burn-in, no matter how much plasma tech has progressed, one of my big concerns with the 360 and sports scores, etc. Standard definition is surprisingly good on the "Smart Stretch" setting, but it varies by channel. At 4:3, it is very comparable to a CRT, at least to my eyes. This is an LCD and it will look grainy/pixelated at times compared to hi-def stuff, but that's the nature of the beast.
I do have a few issues with the television. Like the Sharps have been known to do for years, there was a bit of a factory "red-push" that resulted in pinkish skin tones, but again, some tweaking fixed that. One issue I found annoying was the OPC backlight adjustment that dimmed or brightened the screen immediately after changing channels or going between commercials. Even on the "off" setting, this occurs, but turning it on and decreasing the range to 1 eliminated the problem. One widespread problem that I saw in my research is a sort of "popping" noise from the expansion of the TV casing as it heats and cools from turning on and off. I did experience occasional loud popping for the first couple weeks, but it had no impact on my experience and that sound has now completely disappeared. The speakers are fine for watching the news or a program on the Discovery Channel, but they really distort the low frequencies, even at a medium volume. Of course, these manufacturers have to assume that people who buy LCDs or plasmas have some kind of audio setup. There's no headphone jack, which I missed sorely because I couldn't watch television while my roommate was sleeping. At the same time, this TV isn't designed for anyone to sit sufficiently close for headphones, so it's understandable. I do have my desktop PC hooked up to the Aquos through the "PC Input" (RGB VGA), and it works well for playing video, especially HD, and viewing pictures. Be aware that by default, the TV is set to receive 1280x768 (which looks a little off) from the PC instead of its native 1360x768, so you'll have to change it in the menu; I can't figure out the reasoning behind that. Don't expect to be able to use it as a primary computer monitor - you'll have to upgrade to 1080p for that. Still, for video, I'm convinced that at 37" from regular viewing distance, 1080p is not discernible from 720p and therefore not worth the extra money. For example, 1080p on 52" has the same number of pixels per square inch as does 720p on 37".
Overall, this set is fantastic for my needs as a college student and gamer, especially for the price I got it for. I could not be more pleased with the quality of HD programming, but make sure that at least a good chunk of your viewing will be in HD. With the 1080p version getting to be only a couple hundred more expensive than this one, I feel that I might have some buyer's remorse because of the PC display difference. Buyers should know that because of how big retail stores split their video signal to multiple displays and the lack of fine tuning, what you see may not be what you get. This TV admittedly did not look good in the store, but once I got it home, I couldn't imagine taking it back. Despite its flaws, my satisfaction is undoubtedly five out of five.

Good solid wall mount with many options for attaching to a TV. Various bolts/screws included. I used it in conjunction with a second wall mount that tilts because this one only slides from side to side. My second wall mount did not attach to my AKAI but this one did.

I have been interested in buying an HDTV for some time now. I have been doing research for month on what all the specs mean and what I need in a TV. If you are new to HDTV I would recommend visiting CNET's site it has a lot of information that is very useful about TVs.
Now on to this particular TV, I have tried to be honest. The SV370XVT picture is better than I had expected for the price. I was ready to spend a lot more to get a good picture but this TV exceeded all of my expectations for picture quality. I use my laptop right now to up convert normal DVDs, and all that I can say is that the people look real! I have an over the air antenna and some channel look as good as the DVDs. The TV itself has a very nice design, it has a glossy black finish with a thin frame around the screen, and the depth is really nice if you are going to mount it to a wall! The speakers put out good sound, my parents have a surround sound system and TV doesn't sound that good but it is good. The remote is very slim and easy enough to use after you get used to it, it has capability to be a universal remote but I cannot get that to work. The volume and channel buttons light up when you push them (which is nice), but I would like it if all of the buttons did. The TV offers many different aspect or zoom features which I love. The media port on the side is very easy to use and I have had no problem viewing video or picture and listening to music. The 120Hz seems to make the motion very smooth, I have only noticed blur on channel that are not HD. I haven't played with the picture settings yet but CNET offers a good guide on how to do it. The picture in picture feature is nice only if you don't want to use it to see what is on another channel (the only reason I really would), it only allows you to see picture from a different input than the one that you are currently playing. I have had no problems with this TV yet (if I do you'll hear from me) and have been extremely pleased with it. I was extremely skeptical of VIZIO but they have really proved themselves.
PROS: Great Picture quality, ease of setup, 120Hz, design, media port, 3 HDMI inputs.
CONS: PIP doesn't allow for channel surfing, remote doesn't light all the way up.
All in all this is AN EXCELLENT TV!!

Bought this to upgrade our bedroom set finally. Did not want to go to big, but for our bedroom this is a great size. Currently running an analog directv signal into this set-which blows, but did plug in the ps3 and played some dvd movies on it. Picture really is perfect, I could see no room for improvement on it with correct media (hd, ps3, etc...). On screen menus are nice and easy to nav, speakers and sound is quite nice for built ins....very happy.

If your like me, I wanted an HDTV without paying a fortune, and this is the one to get. Under $600 at Walmart in Nov. 08. I had a Comcast tech hook up my HD box and this TV was accepting the 1080i signal even though the ad says 720p. The picture looks like a bright and vibrant professionally taken photograph! No complaints. What I really liked is sometimes the HD signal will cut off the bottom and top of the picture but the VISIO has an easy menu that quickly allows you to adjust the vertical size without distorting the picture so you can always watch a full screen. Sound quality is pretty good with the built in speakers but would be awesome with a surround sound system. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with the purchase of this HDTV. Nice looking TV too! Remote is simply laid out, user friendly and functional without being overly complicated. This is the VW37L model which is the newest offering from VISIO. I am a happy HDTV camper!

(4) POP12 = tv lover mode, source and swap between
13 screens, 12 mini around 1 main
(5) prompt technical support
(6) loads of inputs, vga support
(7) OLEVIA name lights when TV off " this isnt so much
a PRO, its just cool"
Cons: (1) doesnt play all widescreen movies properly
"make sure your dvd player is set to 16:9 or
none of them will. I found this out when I 1st tried
watching some DVD's, I e-mailed tech support
about this and I recieved a correct responce within
1/2 an hour"
(2) supports only 2 aspects 4:3, 16:9 "my other set
has NORMAL 4:3, FULL 16:9 and an additional
3 THEATER aspects to choose from, so most
movie aspect types are supported"
(3) hazy, foggy movie scenes show patterns " I dont
know how to explain this, for brief time tiny dark
diamonds appear during foggy or hazy video
playback"
(4) takes 4.5 to 5 seconds to switch between video
modes, and there is a sound hickup about halfway
through the switch over.
(5) poorly design'd remote, "it should have the nice,
big number input at the bottom, and the hidden
but vital controls at the top but not hidden..."
(6) wall hanging bracket additional and expensive
for the most part I like this TV, the video playback is crisp and as
clear as the signal it recieves, the cabinet is attractive IMHO, the
speakers produce good sound. BUT if I were getting it for a home
entertainment system I'd be unhappy, the lack of aspect types
means you will run into movies that play in a aprox. 26" diag format
"Lake Placid widescreen version, for instance", but I'm not, so thats
not so important, the 4.5 - 5 second long video mode switch over
time, and BRIGHT blue screen, and audio hickup is annoying, the
remote is odd, it has a standard layout "like a telephone" fairly large
keyed, well labeled number input section at the top, a circular channel,
volume, menu in the center, and a hidden "slide open/off" compartment,
with important controls at the bottom, the problem is the slide cover is
difficult to open, when you slide it off the remote looks incomplete, and
creates sharper pointed corners, also the buttons are small and
closely spaced, and are rather hard to read in low light, a bad design
IMO. for the low Amazon price I paid, I can put up with these minor
irritations...

A member of Syntax's high-quality, low-priced Olevia family of HDTV-ready LCD TVs, the widescreen, 37-inch LT37HVE is perfect for style- and budget-conscious home theater buffs looking to integrate it with any of a range of video sources, from DTV set-top receivers to DVD players and VCRs. More than just a high-quality TV, the set's PC inputs also make it equally suitable for home offices. The 1,366 x 768 (WXGA) LT37HVE is even upgradeable to full-fledged HDTV status: you can replace its NTSC tuner module with an ATSC/DTV-capable tuner at a future date, improving the TV's already-excellent use of space.A stunningly attractive black-and-charcoal bezel frames the high-quality flat-panel screen. Super-IPS (super-in-plane-switching) technology heightens color saturation, broadens viewing angles, sharpens images, boosts response time, and minimizes the visible color shift and distortion from any angle, resulting in exceptional, 178-degree viewing angles (for excellent picture quality from any seat in the room), a vivid 1,200:1 contrast ratio, and an incredible 8 ms response time for seamless, ghost-free, full-motion images with even the most demanding video games and action films. The TV also boasts an impressive brightness rating of 800 cd/m2.LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios. The TV's thin profile--just 5.6 inches--makes it easy to attach the set to a wall using an optional VESA-standard mounting kit (model WM-20D).The LT37HVE performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.A 3D Y/Cdigital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).The set has connections to spare, sporting a pair of HD-capable component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i), analog and digital PC inputs (15-pin D-Sub VGA and DVI-I with HDCP), and 3 each S-video and composite-video inputs. When connected to a PC using the analog input (monitor cable supplied), the TV functions as a high-quality multimedia display with the ability to simultaneously show TV or DVD movies on half the screen while letting you surf the Internet and access e-mail or PC documents on the other half. Dual built-in NTSC TV tuners permit split-screen, multi-image tiling, and picture-in-picture (PIP) viewing.A pair of speakers driven by 20 watts each deliver high-quality sound.Want to enhance the sound from your movies and TV programs? Feed the set's dedicated subwoofer output to a stand-alone powered subwoofer to enjoy additional punch and an further degree of realism from your movies and music.Other features include a built-in alarm clock, a sleep timer, V-Chip parental controls, auto dialogue tone correction, auto volume leveling (minimizing drastic swings in listening level between program and commercial), simulated surround sound, favorite channel, last-channel recall, closed captioning, and a multilingual menu accommodating English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. What's in the Box TV, remote control, remote batteries, 1 VGA monitor cable, 1 composite-video/stereo analog audio AV cable, an AC power cord, warranty information, and a user's manual.

Panasonic TH-37PX60U 37-Inch Plasma HDTV Review

Panasonic TH-37PX60U 37-Inch Plasma HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So I bought this from Circuit City a month ago and I am so plaesed with this TV. It is replacing my old college TV (27" Zenith) and it is a night & day difference. Movies look awesome, it's so cool to watch widescreen movies without any letterbox - just clear picture from corner to corner.
I also have an xbox360 and the games look gorgeous on the screen. It really makes it a more enjoyable experience.
As for the components built in: HDTV tuner, 2 hdmi, 2 component, and analog as well. It comes with a stand which I use since my TV is in the corner of the room. Also comes with a mounting set up.
Cons:
There is a chance for burn-in, so you really have to be careful with turning the TV off when you leave & so on. That said, burn-in seems to go away if you don't leave the TV on for hours. For example, I was watching the Wolrd Cup on HD and for the rest of the day I had a little trace of the ABC logo and the scorecard. Nothing outrageous, but it is something you need to be careful about.Overall, I think this is one of the better entertainment purchases I've made in a while. If you enjoy movies, HBO documentaries, etc you will be thrilled with the quality of this TV.

Featuring Panasonic's 9th generation gas-plasma screen, the 37-inch TH-37PX60U features a width-to-height 16:9 aspect ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. Its maximum of 29 billion colors and over 3,000 shades of gradation provide exceptionally fine detail for outstanding HDTV reproduction. The set's built-in ATSC (DTV) tuner pulls HD signals (480p/720p/1080i) right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. It also includes a Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot, enabling you to take an SD card directly from a digital still camera or camcorder and insert it directly into the TV for quick and colorful photo slideshows.
A plasma screen renders vivid colors like you've never seen before (as in, up to 29 billion in this case), extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the TH-37PX60U is a mere 3.7 inches deep, one of the slimmest plasmas around--perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.
The TH-37PX60U features a 1024 x 720-pixel resolution and an amazing contrast ratio of 10000:1. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Other features include V-Chip parental controls, on/off sleep timers, closed-caption decoding, aspect ratio control, and video input labeling.
The TV's internal stereo speakers are powered by 10 watts per channel (for 20 watts of total power). Special BBE ViVA HD3D surround sound processing creates spacious 3D effects from the two stereo speakers. It features the following connection options:
Component (Y/Pb/Pr): 2 inputs (with 2 audio inputs)
HDMI: 2 inputs
Composite (RCA audio/video): 3 inputs (1 on the front), 1 output
S-Video: 3 inputs (1 on the front)

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any AV source with an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable.
If a component doesn't have an HDMI connection, you'll also get great picture reproduction using the three-jack component video (Y/Pb/Pr) input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. Component video output is available only for DVD playback.

OUTSTANDING! It doesn't get better than this Toshiba...I looked at several tv's over the past few months until I decided that this was the best HDTV on the market and boy was I right. (purchased from another online site) Hooked up to my PS3 it is stunningly flawless and there is absoulutly no lag or fuzziness in the picture as with other TV's I've seen. I don't know what else I can say...I was going to buy a Samsung but this picture and sound quality can't be beat!

Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I reasearched quite a bit before buying this TV. It is a great value. Looking at TVs on display in stores, other LCDs didn't have very dark blacks and a lot had those weird pixelly trails when there was fast motion. The 37HL67 doesn't have either of these problems. It has a great picture - bright, good color and contrast. The controls are easy to use. The picture and built in sound are great. I hooked up an old amplified antenna I had and the tuner got almost all of our local HDTV stations. I just ordered an antenna made for HDTV Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception and expect that to work even better. In case you came across this in your search, the 37HL17 is the exact same model as this one, it just has a different number as it is usually shipped to a different type of retailer. All in all, I am very happy with this TV and would recommend it highly.
The connections on the back:
3 HDMI inputs
coaxial input for cable/antenna
computer monitor VGA-type input
2 sets of component video (3 phono/RCA type plugs)/stereo audio (2 phono plugs) inputs
1 analog video (single yellow phono plug)/audio in with s-video option
1 optical TOSLINK audio out
1 main stereo (red/white phono plug) audio out
one stereo audio in (red/white phono plug) for use with either the HDMI or computer monitor in
A 2nd analog video/audio in on the side of the TV for a camcorder or whatever

Toshiba's Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor.
The 37HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen.

The Value of LCD TVs Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 37HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.

Connections The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It can also make these connections to your audio and video components:
HDMI inputs: 3
ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
PC monitor input: 1 VGA 15 Pin D-sub
S-video input: 1
A/V inputs: 2

Audio The unit's SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system.

37-inch wide screen A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 37HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of 8 to 14 feet.

No tv out there can match the Toshiba for the price and quality of this unit. I went around to the various stores, CC, Best Buy, Etc. and for the 720p/1080i 37 inch lcd's , this was far the best. The color ratio is outstanding with a 12,000:1. I was thinking of going with a 1080P, but for tv under 37 inches i was repeatedly told the human eye wouldnt be a able to tell much difference. You cant go wrong with this LCD!

Olevia 537H 37-Inch LCD HDTV Review

Olevia 537H 37-Inch LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Olevia 537h LCD flat panel TV for my mother, as she entered an assisted living community. I wanted her to have the best picture quality. She loves baseball, and has fairly good eyesight.
I had spent some time looking at the Olevia 537h, but had only seen it showing a poor quality documentary. Still, I could see that the picture was excellent. When I installed my unit (which by the way was delivered sooner than expected, and in perfect condition), and first played a DVD, I was more than satisfied with the results (the Platinum edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was almost too good. You could see the artists' every brush stroke). The DVD player was one which Up-converted to HD 1080i quality, and the Olevia was up to the task. The picture was sharp, and the color was pure.
As has been stated, the on-screen display menu system Syntax is so proud of takes some getting used to, and I had to print out the manual from disc to have a reference in front of me. Some things are still not clear (manual-wise, that is) I almost have it fully programmed, but will probably have to find a simpler remote for my mother's use. I'm using it with an HD antenna, but will probably have to arrange for cable input, as some local stations just don't come in well. This I know is not the fault of the unit.
Overall it is a gem. The picture looks great in even bright room light. No glare from the screen. The colors are pure. And the price from Amazon is the best I had found.
