(This review is for the Toshiba Regza 40XV645U LCD television.)
Original rating:
If price were no object: 4-Star Rating
Price considering: 5-Star Rating
Update 29Jul2010 (see below):
Following the replacement of the Main Board, I now give this TV a 5-star overall rating.
This is a great TV! All of us in the family really like it. Even the piano black narrow frame around the screen looks great (about 1.5" wide at the top and sides and 3" at the bottom). Even though the frame is a glossy black finish, it surprisingly doesn't disturb the daytime viewing experience at all.
We wanted a second TV in our home for a brightly lit room and we were also limited to a 40-inch screen size because of available space, so we ended up choosing the Toshiba Regza 40XV645U LCD TV. (Also see my review of the Pioneer PDP-5080HD Plasma TV in August 2007, if you are interested).
Because of our requirements for our second TV to have a bright picture and not to be sensitive to burning-in issues, we decided on an LCD TV. We compared the Toshiba 40XV645U to the following currently locally available 40-inch LCD (and LED backlit) TVs:
Samsung LN40B610 / LN40B650 / UN40B6000 / UN40B7000;
Sony KDL-40Z5100 / KDL-40XBR9;
Toshiba 40RV525R / 42ZV650U; and
LG 42LH30 / 42LH40 / 42LH55 / 42LH70.
When price was considered, no other TV came close to the Toshiba 40XV645U. Absolutely nothing else! We did not want a shiny, glossy screen (we were afraid of daytime reflections), so many of the above sets were eliminated because of that. The Toshiba ZV650U has a very nice but glossy, reflective screen and cost $1,500 CAD at the time. The RV525R does not have the 120Hz frame rate or the Resolution+ feature. With the XV645U you can turn the frame rate On (120Hz) or Off (60Hz) (we leave it On all the time) - called the ClearFrame feature in the Owner's Manual (you can download a PDF copy from Toshiba.ca before you buy the TV). Also the sound on the RV525R is inferior to that on the XV645U. And the RV525R actually cost more than the XV645U on that day!
We were very impressed with the high-contrast Samsung B650, B6000 and B7000 models at first, and they also have a 1-Tuner Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature, but the highly reflective glossy screen (Ultra Clear Panel), very poor detail in black images (Samsung is famous for "crushing" their blacks), and triple the cost (for the B6000 and B7000), made us dismiss these sets. The Samsung B610 was not bad, but still had the black-detail problems, and the actual colour richness and backlight strength visibly looked better to us on the Toshiba XV645U (and at the time the Toshiba cost $950 CAD vs. $1,500 CAD for the B610). But the Toshiba XV645U does not have PIP, which we do miss (we especially like to watch Split Screen images - available on the Samsungs only).
In our opinion, the Sony Z5100 is a much better value than the XBR9 ($2,000 CAD vs. $2,700 CAD at the time), and we really couldn't see any improvement in either the picture quality or the sound by upgrading to the XBR9.
The LH30 and LH40 LG models definitely did not look as good in the showroom as the Toshiba XV645U (lack of depth in white and black colours) and also cost a little more. The LG LH55 and LH70 both have glossy screens and cost about 50% more than the Toshiba. LG too has problems with image details in black. In addition, the viewing angles were quite poor with the LG models. And we were also worried about servicing issues with the LGs (we were warned by some sales persons).
At the end, it came down to deciding between the Toshiba XV645U (at $950 CAD) and the Sony Z5100 (at $2,000 CAD). (I know, it sounds a little funny that we were deciding between these two sets at the end with prices such wide apart, but the Sony Z5100 series looks that good!) Details in black (for example, wrinkles or pinstripes on a black jacket) were best displayed on the Sony Z5100 of any TVs we've looked at. We really liked the picture, sound, and some of the other features (like the TV Guide On Screen) on the Sony, but the small improvement in these items just did not justify the huge price difference. However, surprisingly, the black and white contrast ratio is a little better (i.e., deeper) on the Toshiba XV645U! And you can even see this difference in a side-by-side comparison. This is really strange since the Sony has a claimed 100,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio whereas the Toshiba's is only 50,000:1. (I suspect the Toshiba XV645U must have a higher Static Contrast Ratio than the Sony Z5100.) But if money were no object, the Sony KDL-40Z5100 would certainly be the winner among the TVs we've looked at.
Impressions with the Toshiba 40XV645U:
To get a great picture, we set the Backlight to maximum (+50) and adjusted some of the other settings to our personal preference. We also keep the Resolution+ setting at the maximum to give us a clear and defined image. This feature actually works and we are very impressed with it for watching standard definition analog cable channels. There are lots of available adjustments on this TV to keep you busy for a long time or you can just select the default, factory setting.
When the XV645U is turned off, the screen is dark black. This is a good indication that the TV is able to reproduce deep black colours. On some other TVs, when the set is turned off, the screen looks kind of charcoal, or dark gray, instead of black. This Toshiba's screen is absolutely a perfect blend of high-gloss and dull-matte. It is shiny enough for great contrast and matte enough that you will not get distracting reflections. I have not seen a screen coating this perfect on any other LCD (or even LED) TV. I mean on any TV, whether it is a Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, LG, or Sharp. So off-angle viewing on the XV645U is quite good, but not nearly as good as plasma TVs.
The sound is just okay, but many people will hook up their TV to an amplifier with external speakers (we haven't yet). The sound volume is very good (we listen to the TV at level 20-25 out of a 100). The built-in speakers face downward, toward the floor (at least what I can tell from the location of speaker grille openings). You can hear the dialogue all right, even in a large room while people are talking in the room, but you will get occasional resonance (and a little distortion too) when the volume is kept above a level of 25 (the TV has some problems with reproducing Bass levels). There is also a Voice Enhancement feature (On or Off) that emphasizes dialogue over the music you hear - yes, it does help a little bit. The StableSound feature (On or Off) is supposed to keep the volume level the same from channel to channel (I couldn't tell). But the Dynamic Range Control (On or Off) is very effective and we leave it On all the time. To our ears, turning other Advanced Sound Settings On, like the Dynamic Bass Boost, just seemed to distort the speakers a little more at higher volume levels.
The Analog Closed Caption (set on CC1 text) has a very small font size when compared to our Pioneer TV, but the letters are all in capital and nicely spread apart, so they are legible. One benefit of the smaller size is that the Closed Captioning covers up less area of the screen. Not only that, but when you enlarge letter box programs (to fill the screen) on this Toshiba, parts of the Closed Captioning text doesn't disappear at the bottom of the screen like with our Pioneer TV! But there is no direct CC button on the Remote, so you'll have to go into the Menu Settings to turn this feature on or off when you want to. However, when you press the Mute button twice (the first press lowers the Volume to one-half), Closed Captioning is automatically activated. Closed Captioning is not available for the three HDMI Inputs, unless that feature is encoded in the DVD (under language options).
The TV is very slow changing channels. When using the Channel Up and Down button, there is a delay of about 3 seconds to display the next channel (already too long), but when you punch in a Channel Number using the number buttons, there is a much longer delay (about 6 seconds). However, you can cut this time in half if you press the Enter button right after the Channel Number. Turning the TV on can be slow or fast, depending on how you set your Power-Up Mode option in the Setup Menu screen. But switching Input Sources is very fast using a single scroll button for all choices.
Overall, I highly recommend this Toshiba TV. It is an excellent value and the picture quality is fantastic. We can get a really clear and sharp image on analog broadcast (we do not subscribe to Digital or High Definition Channels) after some Picture adjustments (even without accessing the Expert Mode under the Advanced Picture Settings menu). Okay, so we can't get the same colour depth and accuracy as with the Pioneer plasma, no matter how much we try to adjust the Picture, but you will not go wrong with this TV overall. Excellent high contrast, non-glare, super clear picture!
One bonus we've noticed with this Toshiba is that during the Auto Tuning Setup, the TV also picked up some Audio Only Digital Channels (from our analog cable service) through which we can listen to radio stations. And the Toshiba's speakers even sound a little better on these digital channels! Our much more expensive Pioneer plasma can't access these music channels at all (as far as we can tell).
One last thing: If you want to install this Toshiba on a wall, it needs a Vesa 200 x 400 mm plate (screw holes located at the corners of a 7.87-inch by 15.75-inch rectangle). Many of the available wall mounting arms don't accommodate that size and you will need to...Read more›

I've owned this product (my 1st Sceptre product) for 2 days. Out of the box I can tell you that the picture looks good and sound is decent.
I can also tell you I will be returning it (to Walmart) because the buttons on the TV do not work. I'll try the same
model again before I give up on Sceptre. I already have the wall mount for it. Updates to come.

VIZIO 37" 1080p Class Slim LCD 120Hz HDTV - Black (SV370XVT) Review

VIZIO 37 1080p Class Slim LCD 120Hz HDTV - Black (SV370XVT)

I have been interested in buying an HDTV for some time now. I have been doing research for month on what all the specs mean and what I need in a TV. If you are new to HDTV I would recommend visiting CNET's site it has a lot of information that is very useful about TVs.
Now on to this particular TV, I have tried to be honest. The SV370XVT picture is better than I had expected for the price. I was ready to spend a lot more to get a good picture but this TV exceeded all of my expectations for picture quality. I use my laptop right now to up convert normal DVDs, and all that I can say is that the people look real! I have an over the air antenna and some channel look as good as the DVDs. The TV itself has a very nice design, it has a glossy black finish with a thin frame around the screen, and the depth is really nice if you are going to mount it to a wall! The speakers put out good sound, my parents have a surround sound system and TV doesn't sound that good but it is good. The remote is very slim and easy enough to use after you get used to it, it has capability to be a universal remote but I cannot get that to work. The volume and channel buttons light up when you push them (which is nice), but I would like it if all of the buttons did. The TV offers many different aspect or zoom features which I love. The media port on the side is very easy to use and I have had no problem viewing video or picture and listening to music. The 120Hz seems to make the motion very smooth, I have only noticed blur on channel that are not HD. I haven't played with the picture settings yet but CNET offers a good guide on how to do it. The picture in picture feature is nice only if you don't want to use it to see what is on another channel (the only reason I really would), it only allows you to see picture from a different input than the one that you are currently playing. I have had no problems with this TV yet (if I do you'll hear from me) and have been extremely pleased with it. I was extremely skeptical of VIZIO but they have really proved themselves.
PROS: Great Picture quality, ease of setup, 120Hz, design, media port, 3 HDMI inputs.
CONS: PIP doesn't allow for channel surfing, remote doesn't light all the way up.
All in all this is AN EXCELLENT TV!!

Sony BRAVIA VE5-Series KDL-46VE5 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz Eco-friendly LCD HDTV Review

This is an excellent TV.
Picture Quality:
The picture quality of this set is superb. In the setup menu, I set the picture to "vivid" mode and the HD quality is simply life-like. The color and contrast are excellent. It also uses something that Sony calls MotionFlow which helps to smooth out the image when you are watching fast-action pictures.
Backlight Technology:
It is an LCD set, but uses a hot cathode fluorescent lamp for its backlighting. This technology allows it to be much more energy efficient and close to par with the energy usage of LED backlit LCD TVs. Most LCDs use cold cathode fluorescent lamps. The 40" model uses a maximum of 140 watts, the 46" uses a max of 160 watts, and the 52" uses a max of 180 watts.Eco-Friendly:
It has a sensor called a presence sensor that does two things. First it senses the ambient (room) light and if the room gets darker, it will automatically dim the picture of the TV. This works well if you are watching TV in the bedroom at night and you want less light output. The second thing that the sensor does is senses the room for motion and body heat. If you leave the room for a preset amount of time (5 min, 30 min, ...) and the TV doesn't sense anyone around, it will turn off the picture. If you walk back in the room, it senses you and turns the screen back on. The sound stays on for another 30 minutes or so, then the whole set will go into stand-by mode if it does not sense you. Both of these features can be turned off via the setup menu and help to conserve energy.
Features (just a few of them):
The TV is loaded with features. It will automatically sense if you have something connected to an input (for example HDMI2). This is great when you want to hit the input button on the remote because it will not select items that aren't currently sending out a signal. This means you don't have to scroll through 10 items if you only have two components connected to the TV. In the setup menu, you can set each input for always on, always off, or auto. I used the always on setting for the PC input because the cable I used to connect the PC did not send a power signal so the TV did not sense it. By setting it to always on, the PC input will always be available when I scan through the inputs.
It also has a lot of inputs. There are 4 HDMI inputs. If you have a DVI port on your PC, then you can connect it through HDMI port 1 which also has an analog audio input. There is one dedicated composite (with S-video) and one dedicated component input, but there is another switchable composite/component input that you can use if you have two composites and one component, or vice versa. There is a PC input to connect via VGA connection. The audio outputs are one optical digital out and one analog out.
Dislikes:
1. All of the Inputs and Output are on the left side (when looking at the front of the TV) of the TV. This is unfortunate for me since my A/V cabinet is on the right side of the TV. It is a minor inconvenience, but something that I did not think about until I got the set home. I would say about half of the inputs are one the left side and the other half are on the back, next to the side inputs.
2. The presence sensor is right where I have my center audio speaker. I will have to raise up the TV to still have that speaker front and center.Overall, this is not a cheap TV, but I think this is a case where you get what you pay for. It is a really great set.

Sony BRAVIA EX 500 Series 32-Inch LCD TV, Black Review

Sony BRAVIA EX 500 Series 32-Inch LCD TV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So I bought this tv without reading a single review, because there wasn't any. I wanted specifically a 32" 120hz set because it is going to be in a small room, any bigger would have been overkill, and this fit the bill.
I upgraded from a Samsung 26" 720p (LN26A330), which I had no complaints at all about, but really wanted 1080p since this is hooked up to a home theatre/gaming pc and I could use the extra resolution. I compared these tv's side by side after getting the sony, and was really surprised how much better the sony's picture was (I was using 720p on both for fair comparison, playing identical sources).
Pros
-Very bright picture, which is good for the day time
-Blu Rays do look amazing, just adjust the settings to personal preference
-True Cinema 24p mode does seem to play movies at true 24p (I set the htpc output to 24hz to accomplish this)
-Motionflow works really nicely on some blu-rays, definitely not for all movies though, but I actually do prefer it over True Cinema 24p in a lot of cases
-PC games look very good with motionflow turned on, especially FPS's. Motionflow makes 60fps look like 120fps and you can tell a difference in how clear and smooth everything is.
-Extremely energy efficient, uses only 40w in power saving mode, ~75w normal mode (this is better in both categories than my 26" samsung, which amazed me!)
Cons
-Speakers on my old samsung might have been a little better, its hard to tell for sure, but its not a big difference.
-Very minor, I wish a single button could turn motionflow on and off instead of navigating menus
Overall, I am really happy with this set. If you like 24p true cinema and/or motionflow and are willing to pay a little extra, I'd recommend it. If your not that concerned with those features, I would probably get a less expensive 60hz set, but I am glad I got this one.
btw, make sure you don't don't turn Cinemotion to auto1 if Motionflow is already on. It gives movies a really strange effect, like your hallucinating or something.

I picked up this particular unit because we have an old-school wall unit in our family room and this was the biggest model I could get into the cabinet. I needed a screen that was no wider than 35.5 inches. Most 37" models are wider than that. It's connected to a Comcast DVR with an HDMI cable that I also picked up from Amazon. I really don't use a lot of the inputs on these TVs, but there are 4 HDMI inputs. The design of the TV is nice and it's very slim and lightweight. Once I had it connected, I did have to futz with the picture and audio because the defaults were not good, at least to me. The TruSurround and TruVolume audio controls were set to ON and I turned them off. I also boosted the bass and raised the treble a little bit. For the picture, I turned off the Ambient light sensor and changed the picture mode to "GAME" which seemed like the brightest. I also changed the SMOOTH MOTION from medium to high. Once these were set, I was very happy with the picture and audio performance of the TV. This was not necessarily meant as a blow-your-socks-off TV. It's just taking the place of a 12-year-old Sony 35" tube where my wife and/or kids usually watch TV. I can tell the technology has rapidly advanced because my 50" Samsung plasma (4 years old) doesn't look quite as good as this model does. A very nice, slim product.

I purchased this unit because I have a space in a cabinet that's less than 36" wide and this is one of the few 37" TVs that will fit. There are some problems which I find annoying but some people may not notice or care about. Sometimes there the audio and video are not in sync. The audio leads the video by a fraction of a second. It happens about 20% of the time. Sometimes the set reboots itself, going black and then displaying the VISIO logo before restoring the picture. This is very infrequent, but it does happen occasionally. The response to the remote in some cases is slow. For example, unmuting takes a significant fraction of a second. There are other less bothersome issues too. I called VISIO tech support and they said they weren't familiar with these problems and had me do a full reset which had no effect. I exchanged the unit I bought for a second and it had the same problems. Then I read a review by someone else complaining about the same problems (and others). The set has great specs and the picture seems to be just fine and that's most important. I would really prefer to replace this unit with another brand, but there are no reasonably priced 37" sets on the market at this time that will fit.
Update (1/18/11): I ended up getting the Samsung LN37C530 (one of the few others that fits in my cabinet). I ended up spending about $600 for a TV that's only 60Hz and would not have done that if I didn't have to. The Samsung has none of the sync or volume issues that the VISIO did with the exact same inputs.
Some other observations: one gripe I had with the VISIO was slow tuning on broadcast signals. The Samsung tunes much faster, but the VISIO was able to do a better job of locking on to weak signals. I surf a lot, so prefer faster tuning. I had to tweak the Samsung picture to get it to my liking and I don't think it's as good as the VISIO (not a refresh issue; I can't say I notice that). One big advantage of the Samsung is that it creates a program guide from the broadcast signals that's very handy. In sum, I could not live with the VISIO issues and am definitely happier with the Samsung despite its higher cost, lower specs, and its own quirks.

(More customer reviews)
I am very happy with the purchase and the TV was delivered promptly and works very well. Nice picture and sound and a great deal for a 37" 1080p flat panel. And as always my experience with Amazon has been tremendous.
My only issue is that the promotional information on Amazon and every other site that sells this set (VA370M) claims that it is 15000:1 contrast ratio. However, if you check Vizio's site it states that it is only 6500:1. When the set arrived I checked the manual and sure enough it is only 6500:1 with DCR turned on and 1300:1 on normal viewing. This is a huge difference from the internet specs from sellers of this unit.
Just wanted to give a heads up to all considering the tv. Still a good deal, but at least know the true specs.

Great TV for a great price. I bought it at Sam's Club for $598. I bought it to watch movies and TV shows in my garden as it requires no cable connections to stream TV programs and movies. I also use it as a computer screen with my Mac. USB outlets don't work yet but according to some reviews they will be operational by the end of this year with a firmware update. I like everything about this TV. It's the best one I've ever owned. Netflix, Vudu, Amazon VOD work without a glitch. It has a bluetooth connection for a remote and headsets.
I don't understand the other reviewer who couldn't watch Netflix on it. It works great with this TV but you need a subscription to Netflix to be able to use it. Vudu movies stream in various resolution and you pay per movie. Again, you need to sign up online with your credit card to be able to use it.

I have owned four HDTVs, and this is my 3rd brand. I really love this TV. It is the only one that I haven't had to calibrate the picture because it is beautiful with the factory settings. The picture looks great for Blu-ray and PS3 gaming. It also looks great for over-the-air television channels, so it handles the high quality HD and low quality HD equally well.
I purchased this TV because it exceeds Energy Star 4.0 standards, and Vizio has a great reputation for making TVs that last (unlike Samsung, which is a brand that I replaced when BOTH of my Samsung TVs stopped working). This is also the only American brand, which all things being equal (and actually, they aren't because this TV outperforms other brands in my humble opinion) is a nice bonus for this purchase.

When I read some of the other reviews here and elsewhere, I see that their expectations for this TV were a little unrealistic when it comes to using it as a computer screen. Before I bought it through Sam's for $698 (deal is off now, but probably will be back for Christmas), I researched it completely. The Internet Apps right now are OK, but more will come that will be exciting in the future through automatically downloaded firmware updates. I was told by Vizio that eventually, it probably will have the capability to Wi-Fi what is on your computer screen to this TV. But, as for now, I'm very happy with the picture quality and size of this TV, as I watch it from a 10 to 15 foot distance away. Like someone else said, it is not too big, and not too small. When I watch HD Theatre channel's travel/nature shows, the picture quality is close to a Blue Ray's quality, IMO.
Oh, the lower amount of heat that comes off, and the less electricity use than my 2 1/2 year old Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-32S3000 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV that went bad, are great buyer benefits! Sony wanted me to take that tv to an authorized Sony repair shop and pay $50 to find out why the picture went out with no guarantees that they would pay for parts and/or labor to fix it. I thought it was throwing good money after the bad $900 that I had paid for the TV. So, on my new 37 inch Vizio, I bought Sam's 3 extra year extended warranty for $79.96 after reading the "fine print". No extended warranty is perfect, but Sam's was the least offensive, IMO.

Just picked this set up from Sam's Club for a great price. The display set in the store didn't do this set justice. Right out of the box this tv was easy to set up to my PC, Xbox 360 and my stereo all within 20mins (no dead pixels :]). The Hi-def picture quality is awesome. The graphics coming from the xbox are astounding, and it is the perfect size for a large PC screen. Fits perfectly in a bedroom, just about the largest TV I would want for a bedroom, any bigger and you'd be to close to the screen for optimum viewing.
I bought this set mainly to use as a bigger display than my 17" lcd on my laptop, and i was a little skeptical about the color temp and the resolution compared to a high-end computer monitor. As soon as i hooked up my laptop via the HDMI cable this screen blew my mind, the text is sharp, the color temp is spot on (has menu features to adjust) and the shear size makes editing photos in photoshop and lightroom a breeze. I'm a professional photographer and I am pretty picky when it comes to color and res and this set was exactly what I was looking for.
I highly recommend this set!

LG 37LD450 37-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV Review

This model replaces LG's mid-range offerings from the past two years which are currently being sold or cleared out at the various retailers. I did a lot of research between brands and models, and am convinced that this is currently the best combination of price/performance/features. Sale prices are more than $100 less than the older models, too.
Size: 37" TVs aren't as commonly stocked in stores, but I think it's a great size with a bigger picture than 32" without many more $$$. 40" or 42" were just too big for me to use and usually entailed a significant price jump.
Picture: The picture is fantastic, and the Picture Wizard tutorial helps get the colors set to something pleasing in short order. Viewing at an angle is superb, and was a differentiating factor from the Sony EX series. The Sonys washed out considerably with only a small change in viewing angle. I was tempted by LEDs but found the reflectiveness of their screens too distracting. I also looked into the 120 Hz models but, in my humble opinion, found them to be much ado about nothing. I like to watch action sports and have found everything to be crystal clear at 60 Hz. Side by side in the store I found the LG and comparable Samsung to be nearly identical.
Sound: I was prepared for the worst after reading scores of reviews saying that the sound out of this grade of speakers was terrible. I've been delighted with the output and the "surround" enhancement was good enough to be disconcerting (only because I wasn't expecting it). There are 5 sound modes in addition to custom; I haven't reached an opinion yet about these being a positive or negative. I see no need to get external speakers at this point.
[as an aside, I found one station for which the sound was out of sync with the picture. I'm connected via HDMI to a FiOS HD box. I'm not enough of a techie to know the cause for this, but all the stations that are my regulars are fine. It was PetHD that was out of sync.]
Features: There are ample inputs, including USB, but to date I've only used the HDMI. Unless you are looking for cutting edge Internet connectivity and are willing to pay for it, this has everything you need. I personally don't see the world of TV moving to 3D anytime soon, if at all, and certainly the current offerings aren't ready for prime time. For a 60 Hz, 1080p LCD TV there wasn't anything better that I found (that was worth the extra money).
Bottom Line: Great picture, great price. I was surprised that I got mine at Sears (of all places) for a price that blew everyone else away. I usually order from amazon with Prime shipping, but until last week their price wasn't competitive. My research told me that the prices on all these sets are in constant flux and the best price this week won't be at the same place next week.

Vizio E370VL 37" LCD HDTV Review

Vizio E370VL 37 LCD HDTV

Ok, I know alot of people have been saying this TV has some issues... but I have not really noticed anything with mine.
I connected it to my FIOS HD box and works nicely. HD is really nice on this tv... with SD content I see artifacts... but not too bad.. but noticable. I turend off the TruSound and TuVolume (remember you need to adjust settings for each input). For me, it made a great difference (this TV is in a bedroom).. and the TruVolume seems to do the opposite of what intended to do.
That being said, alot of nice features and adjustments. I have it in my backroom and about to order the mount. But really enjoying the picture quality. One note, the Vizio logo stays lit as long as power is on the set... White when powered on, yellow when powered off... the off setting is not too intrusive.. but may take getting use to in a bedroom...
overall very nice tv and works well with FIOS!
