Update:
We ended up buying a Sony Bravia for the kitchen, and so this has gone into my sons room. The viewing angle became a bit of an issue, and the Sony does not have that issue. I would bring it down to 3.5 stars, but still, this is a great value. One thing I (we) did not consider is walking around the kitchen and doing things at different points, so this became a bit of a hassle. Please note that I did NOT return it, and that says a lot. So, if you only had the money for one, and you did NOT need a dvd player, I would go with the Sony. If you need a dvd player, this gets the nod.
I bought this because my wife wanted a small TV for our kitchen and my friend had one and it looked pretty good. Well, it looks just as good in our kitchen. The picture quality is excellent, even standard definition looks good. The sound is exactly what I thought it would be for this TV and price point...meaning, it didn't knock my socks off, but it was more than adequate for where it is. The only thing that I do not like is the viewing angle is not that great. So, keep in mind where your viewing area is going to be, and as long as you can rotate the TV you won't have any problem. Our kitchen gets a lot of sun, and we haven't had any problems viewing.....the only issue is the viewing angle. At this price, I would have taken off only half a star, but that is not possible. The stand is very nice and stable, so I do not have any worries of knocking it over. Samsung makes a nicer TV, but it is more expensive and does not have a built-in DVD player, so the combination makes this a no brainer for me. Lastly, at this size screen, I doubt anyone could tell the difference between 780p and 1080p so there is no reason to spend the money on a more expensive 1080p (that doesn't apply here, but I was also looking at larger sets, and you really need to get to 40inch in order to start noticing a difference....and if you are more than 10 feet away, I would say even a 40inch 780p would be more than acceptable, so I only mention this as an FYI).
