Philips 27PT6441 27" Stereo TV with QuadraSurf Remote and RealFlat Screen Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Same fuse problem here. Don't waste time with customer service. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON A REPAIRMAN. Fix it yourself. Just pretend it's 1956 and your tv needs a new vacuum tube. Ask your dad or grandfather and they'll probably get a chuckle.
The hardest part was lifting the 100 lbs. behemoth off the entertainment center by myself.

Clarification on earlier repair instructions

There are 9 screws that hold the front to the back, not 8. The ninth screw is mixed in with the panel of red and white cable sockets grouped together at the bottom center of the back of the tv.
The screw heads are "stars" which need a "Torx" head screwdriver with the specific size of "T10" I bought a one of those multi-head screwdrivers from home depot that had that style and size bit.
With the tv lying on its screen and all 9 bits removed, the back panel lifts straight off and exposes all the circuitry. That gives you enough room that you don't need a light, mirror, or special pliers.

That now behind me, and my tv repaired, fixed and working as I speak, I wonder if in 10-12 months from now, I'm just going to have to replace the fuse again. If that is the case I think even less of Philips, which is pretty hard to imagine at this point.
I also wonder if the Capitalist foreman in Communist China that runs the slave-factory that put my TV together skimped on cheap, faulty fuses, and that's why there are thousands of these sets out there. Philips knows all about this, I have no doubt.
Think of the poor consumers out there who don't know about the comments here at amazon who are going through Philips's maze of telephone help menus, or sending out for $100, $150, $200 repairs. For them I wish I could give fewer stars.

You can't go wrong with a set this well made, this classy, and this affordable. Philips' commanding 27-inch 27PT6441 uses a RealFlat picture tube for high-contrast, reflection-free pictures with no curvature, edge to edge. It's also loaded with convenient connections and terrific features like Philips' QuadraSurf remote control, which lets you personalize and customize your channel surfing and TV viewing by family member or program theme.Active Control Plus continuously analyzes incoming signals and optimizes picture color, sharpness, contrast, and digital noise reduction 50 times per second, and an ambient light sensor adjusts settings according to the viewing conditions in your room. Further refining an already stellar image is the 27PT6441's 2-line digital comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate most other audio/video gear, from DVD players to satellite receivers, digital video recorders, video game consoles, cable boxes, and VCRs. You can choose between rear A/V inputs and a set of side A/V inputs for spontaneous hookups, including a side-panel headphone jack for private listening.Other 27PT6441 features include a sleep and event timer, AutoPicture (which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness), and AutoSound (which lets you select settings for voice, music, movies, or custom). Incredible Surround simulates surround sound from the set's 2 speakers, while bass and treble controls let you adjust the sound to your taste.
What's in the Box TV, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual.
